In the 1970s, several species of Asian carp were brought in as foreign workers to do the low-skill, labor-intensive jobs that native fish supposedly couldn’t handle at scale. The carp performed the task efficiently at first, and their population size remained relatively contained. Over time, the carp escaped into the broader ecosystem. Their numbers exploded. They consumed the resources the native species depended on, outcompeted local populations, and turned the environment into a chaotic and dangerous mess for all involved. For decades the official response was to throw hundreds of millions of dollars at the problem. Nothing worked. The invaders kept spreading anyway. The carp had anchored themselves through mass reproduction. Turns out the real solution was already swimming in the same waters. Strong native predators like the blue catfish began devouring the invaders whole. These were the all American fish who had been held back and kept down for years. Once they were allowed to operate at full strength, they controlled the explosion naturally and at no extra cost to the system. The expensive interventions mostly failed. The natives who were built for this kind of competition succeeded. The solution was to allow the native fish to do what they had been built to do all along: defend their homes and offspring with all the ferocity of a mother grizzly. I hope you enjoyed this story that is only about fish.

I have a special loathing for that thing where a preacher sounds like he is about to cry 80% of the time. Partly because it is so patently fake. Nobody can actually sustain that kind of genuine emotion that often. It seems to me to be a kind of acting that moves past a rhetorically-heightened version of the actual preacher and into calculated histrionics designed to appeal to women.

My dad (boomer with 5 houses, worked very hard his whole life), had a 2013 F-150 lariat. Garaged every day, looked like it just came off the showroom floor, never so much as a potato chip inside. 170k miles. He just traded it into the dealership…. For $5,000 He visited me 4 weeks ago, he knows I drive a 2001 Tacoma with 300k miles on it. I would’ve given him $10k. He didn’t even think to ask if I wanted it. Called me up all proud of the deal he made, said “I bet I could’ve gotten 7k for the truck but it wasn’t worth the hassle.” The dealership will sell it for $18k and I’m still driving the Tacoma.

Here is a great example of a complete misrepresentation of the BIBLICAL Patriarchal view. Everyone should listen to this & learn. This snippet is precisely why feminism rules in our churches, in our Seminaries and in Owen's own mind. He frames biblical patriarchy wrong - as nearly every complementarian does - and thus makes a horrid application. In the end, he winds up with feminism, yet he thinks he is being humble & courageous. In reality, this is arrogance & cowardice. Arrogance since he goes directly vs Scripture and cowardice b/c he is letting his wife lead him & urges you to do the same. In his mind, if the wife "thinks" her husband is wrong, she not only has to correct him, but he had better listen to her. The biblical patriarchal view never claims that husbands are infallible, nor does it ever say the husband should never consider what his wife says. If a husband is wrong, of course he should accept good counsel - from another man, or from his own wife. That is real humility. BUT if his wife attempts to correct him & he disagrees with her, she MUST - not "should" - submit to him (Eph. 5:24; Col. 3:18; Titus 2:5; 1 Peter 3:1-2). That is humility on her part. But this entire framing - exactly what Owen laid out here - is why marriages are being destroyed by Pastors, Elders and Counselors (including ACBC counselors). And as an obvious (though not to him) example of the complementarian failure, using Nabal as a biblical example of a patriarch is not only inaccurate, it is downright idiotic. That would be like using Jezebel as an example of a submissive wife. I've counseled exactly zero with the spirit of Nabal, but I've counseled legion with the spirit of Jezebel (Rev. 2:20).

My 15-year-old son almost got stuck in Salt Lake City by himself overnight due to a flight cancellation, and they didn’t have a flight to CVG the following day. The only person I really knew in SLC was @Eric_Conn. I didn’t want my son living in an airport by himself for 36 hours. So, I asked if Eric could pick him up and host him for the evening, and without any hesitation he said, “Sure, I’ve got an extra room.” It was a relief. I was thankful for Eric stepping up at a moment's notice. I hope God allows me to return the kindness in the future. In the end, we were able to get Caed on a redeye back home, and it wasn’t necessary. I truly think a lot of Christians I know, whether to my right or left or who differ in this way or that, would have had my back in this situation, and vice versa. I can think of more than a few people who others would consider "on the fringe" and "boomer-ish normies." It’s why I have become more reluctant to burn things down online. I don’t want to diminish the significance of some of the issues currently being debated. Many of them need to be sussed out. But acts of kindness like this do affect my willingness to be very patient and my drive to pray for and work toward greater unity of Christians in the truth of God’s Word.

Look, if you’ve been listening to people who told you Tyler Robinson did not shoot Charlie, it’s not too late to stop. A lot of people get caught up in dumb conspiracies sometimes. But you do not have to continue down this road just because you’ve followed it for awhile. The greater part of wisdom is acknowledging real evidence now and learning from the experience not to listen to people who exploited your grief over Charlie to feed you slop and make money off you. You CAN stop and turn around. You can stop participating in the evil attacks on Charlie’s widow today.
