Ogiri Okpei is made from castor seeds while iru is fermented locust beans. They are not the same thing at all and they give completely different tastes and aromas in food.

@treazyblaq Iru (locust beans) is what we use in making Ogiri Okpei Ogiri Okpei is used in cooking Ọfé akwụ, ọfe Ọkwụrụ, ọfe Ọgbọnọ some even add in tomato stew and yes crayfish is also used in cooking tomato stew, its an optional ingredient

And Igbo people do not pour beans inside pot, add water and ingredients, then start cooking it like that. We cook it halfway first, pour away the first water like rice, then add fresh water before adding ingredients and seasoning.
