I'm honoured and excited to lead the @SinaiGeriatrics program alongside Dr. Richard Norman @UHN.
We're committed to advancing clinical care, education, and research for older adults across @SinaiHealth and @UHN—thank you to @DrSamirSinha for his 14 years of visionary leadership.

Expanding Medicare to cover the cost of long-term care at home would be a HUGE development.
Great quote: “There isn’t a lot in the world of health policy that does this well with such a broad swath of the electorate.” @CitizenCohn

Excited to join @IlanaRichman & @JerardZKHMD as @JAMAInternalMed Editorial Fellows: jamanetwork.com/journals/jamai…
I'm hopeful that @X can still be a useful tool for knowledge exchange in health research.
I'll start posting content from the journal, and updates in medicine/geriatrics.

#Epitwitter, are you at SER2024?
I was so looking forward to seeing you all but I have been having a flare up of my herniated disc & had to cancel my trip.

Longer version of CBS nursing home ownership & quality story. Story focuses on Aspen Skilled Healthcare where @lisaling's mother-in-law received poor care. As I said in the piece, "Does Aspen have particular investors? There's no ability to peel that back with the federal data?"
CBS Mornings@CBSMornings
More than 70% of U.S. nursing homes are now owned by for-profit companies — and new research raises troubling questions about their quality of care. There is mounting evidence patients are paying the price. cbsn.ws/4c18tvs

@DerekManis @Joe_Bruch I found this helpful: Gary Evans. Social Research Exemptions and Common Rule: It’s Complicated. Relias Media.
But the NIH guidance on this topic is generally vague and unclear.
English

@CostAnEffect @Joe_Bruch Appreciate this! Our IRB said it wasn’t, but have received reviewer comments saying exempt 4
English

@Joe_Bruch Yes, 4. "Readily identified" under NIH exemption 4 does not correspond to the definition of identifiable data under HIPAA. So your data could still have HIPAA identifiers (like dates of service) and be exempt. However, IRBs may vary in how they interpret this exemption. Good luck

@cdrake219 Carrie fry and Laura Hatfield wrote a great paper on this topic: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…
