@RedHatNoShirt I don't like his diving, but he's a really good player. Pay attention to which side the opposition targets for their attack. They aren't keying on Richie because they know he is solid. And Vancouver didn't send him back- they made him an offer but his family is in TO.

@009Sandman @DiceElDani Not really. Any team could have him for free if they were willing to wait until January, but Middlesbrough wanted him to start their season and were willing to pony up the 2 million and share a significant part of the sell-on fee.

Sebastian Berhalter was one of Vancouver's best players, a two-time MLS Best XI, and the first MLS player ever to score and assist in a World Cup match. Six to ten clubs wanted him. He left for $2 million. To the Championship. Because MLS rules meant Vancouver either sold him cheap or lost him for free. MLS keeps proving it can develop players. It just can't hold onto the money they're worth.

@sarobertson_ Canada has no ability to refine Alberta oil and they themselves need it. They refine in the US and then send a lot of it back to Canada. This is so stupid it boggles the mind.

Carney on using Alberta oil as a bargaining chip during trade negotiations with the US: "Being a reliable supplier is important. Canadians are reliable. Canadians can be trusted. People trust us. And so when you're supplier of a key commodity, key service, you've got to think really hard about not supplying it."

@NoLore I don't know where you are, but in Vancouver the World Cup was awesome! Downtown was packed. Fanfest was just incredible. I've never seen this city turn up like the way it has over the past month. Makes you appreciate just how great it is to live in such a multicultural city.

@jamessharman You're implying that Argentina has a choice, but that's just what Spain does. They are on a level all by themselves at the moment. Belgium were the only team in the tournament to really challenge them- it's a pity those two didn't meet in the final.

I do understand why a team like Argentina would defend like that for the most part vs Spain, but to have literally zero plan to try and get Lionel Messi into the game at all? Calamitous. They almost pulled it off with a soft ref, but if I’m #10, I am confurious (a new word I have invented.) @footy_prime

@HereForSports42 @TaylorTwellman The highest spenders in MLS are about equal to the lowest spenders in the premiership. Despite this, about 2/3 of MLS franchises lose money every year. Mostly it has to do with broadcast rights. EPL makes about $5B every year (20 teams) while MLS gets about $250M (30 teams).

@TaylorTwellman Honest question from a growing soccer fan. What is keeping MLS from growing to the level of internet as the EPL? I know (most of) the best players go to EPL. Do owners just go all go all in on players in europe in their prime? Because MLS is a feeding ground for the old stars

@BenSteiner00 Why shouldn't third place goals count towards the Golden Boot race? It's part of the tournament. Teams are playing against very good opposition. Are you just disappointed that Messi is unlikely to win it?

@aftncanada Any idea why BC Premier League weren't invited? I get why the Rise can't have two teams in the competition (although VFC and Langley are pretty close) but why shouldn't Altitude be given a berth?

@davidfrum @USWPColby lol Progressives bringing up ancient Athens, smells like desperation. They are losing and they know it. Just look at the crew of far left socialists running the show for the Democrats. Scary times for the Democrats and progressives around the world.

@xerxes_master @JohnMolinaro I have no issue with referees giving yellow cards for diving. If dives deserve yellow cards, then referees should be giving yellow cards for dives. They haven't been though.

So, a player shouldn’t get a yellow card for an egregious dive when he is already on a caution? Is that really the argument being put forth? What else are we letting players on a yellow to get away with?

@jamessharman @footy_prime Amazingly, this is only the second card given for simulation in the tournament. All these games and only two players have gone down looking for a penalty- why aren't you guys talking about this miraculous progress?

@PVInspector @Gray_Mackenzie @bubbleslake You can't be serious. The most anyone in Canada can donate to a political party is $3550 a year- no donations from super PACs or corporations. There are no such limits in the United States. Moroun has donated several million to Trump. Do you see how that's a little different?

I find it funny how the media makes a big deal out of the fact the other owners donated to Trump campaign like it’s a big sin when it’s the way of politics as it’s ever been. Shucks, our whole appointed senate are bag carriers and donators to the the Liberal party but we are told that’s the place of Canada’s sober second thought. Comical.

Here are some of the details on what Canada had to give up to open the Gordie Howe Bridge, as per a Canadian government source. For the first 15 years, Canada gets 50% of toll profits and the other 50% goes into a regional "economic development fund." What that fund does and who runs, is not clear Under the previous agreement, Canada was to receive 100% of toll profit until they were made whole on the $6.4B they spent to build the bridge, which Michigan/the US contributed $0. The agreement also says it could be 50+ years before Canada was whole, that timeline is now longer. The Americans will have to agree if Canada wants to increase the bridge tolls by more than 10%, or lower them below compared regional averages. That clause helps out the owners of the Ambassador Bridge, the Maroun family, who have donated to the Trump administration and previously to US ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra, to try and stop the new bridge from opening #cdnpoli

@clairlemon The best thing about soccer/football or any sport is the unpredictable outcome. You watch the game to see which team is better- that's not something that can be known in advance. Never heard anyone suggest it was a negative before.

@mattsekeres @Zer0PucksGiven There are only 5 substitutions in ⚽️. 90 minutes of sprints and recoveries and 5 of the 10 outfield players will be on the pitch for the entire game with one 15 minute break. A professional hockey player plays 6-10 minutes an hour for three hours. You can't compare the two.
