Streaming text is rendered with handwriting animation. The layout is calculated with Pretext. Has kerning logic and accurate glyph positions. Text is selectable.

@Devgru Text in particular is only ever done badly here since you need the DOM for editing (unless you've got a very large budget). Check my timeline for the "cldraw" project for what a different rendering strategy could look like.

CSS действительно умеет всё больше, но результаты его работы всё ещё не доступны для скрипта без торможения основного потока, зависимости от layout и т.д.
из недавних новшеств только anchor positioning даёт надежду

впечатляющий пример сочетания DOM-отрисовки с внешними измерениями, можно делать крутые лейауты.
я в последний год потихоньку изучаю работу с текстом, чтобы не зависеть от DOM, но у меня фокус на влиянии текста на компоновку страницы, а тут скорее наоборот
