@sporer @draftcheat No one cries about that anymore. They cried about that during the well-documented period that they were actually being silenced

@halocosm @TomatoeJoee @CussenFerg18123 @drewshirleylaw @xwanyex Again, it’s not just some random people - it was people who were afraid to admit they were affiliated with Jesus who suddenly had something happen that made them brave - after Jesus was no longer with them. Chicken when he was alive, but willing to die for a lie they made up

Disappointingly Lukewarm Takes
I was confused but I now see the problem: Yes, plenty of people die for "lies" that they believe to be true. Happens all the time. Here we have eleven men who died for something, that, if a lie, they would have been the ones to fabricate. They didn't merely believe the truth, they *knew* the truth. That's quite different.

@halocosm @drewshirleylaw @xwanyex I think the point that is argued is that they would have willingly been tortured and murdered for something that they clearly would have KNOWN to be a lie - not simply for something they hoped to be true

Oh my god. Why do so many people conflate lies with mistakes? Joe had no reason to lie about where he was when Charlie was shot, and it would have been insane for him to try given the circumstances. It was OBVIOUSLY an honest mistake. Jumping on him is absurd, and cruel. Sheesh.

Interesting how selective the outrage can be. In 2008, Hillary Clinton said, "I want the Iranians to know that if I am president, we will attack Iran." Strong words. Very strong words. But I don't remember people screaming "dictatorship" back then. I don't remember nonstop panic posts or calls for impeachment over a statement like this. We can disagree on policies. We can debate foreign policy all day long. But let's at least be consistent. If it was acceptable rhetoric then, why is it suddenly the end of democracy now? Consistency matters. “They’re called Medicaid and Medicare and the government spends over $2 trillion on them every year!” “Surely with numbers like that every American citizen will have exquisite health care?” “No, mainly it goes to pay foreign scammers who set up fake hospices in California .”

The left’s argument for birthright citizenship is obviously insane but it’s even more insane when you consider that they actually don’t believe in your or my “birthright.” We are on stolen land and don’t belong here, according to them. But the anchor baby whose parents got here from Guatemala 10 seconds ago has a “birthright” and is tied to this nation by blood for all time. That’s actually their position. It’s so psychotic that you can’t even argue against it. Like trying to have a political debate with a dog. These people are not rational.

Without an ounce of self-awareness, they turn around and make every argument the political right has been making about Joe Biden and funding the Ukraine war for the past five years. But this isn't a Democratic president led war.
Nicholas Kristof@NickKristof

Imagine if instead of spending $1.3 million/minute on war in Iran, we spent this on people. With 3 days of war, we could eliminate the worst form of global hunger, saving 1.5m kids' lives. With less than 3 weeks worth, we could offer national pre-K or college for all Americans.

All the large accounts that present themselves as truth-seeking journalists or commentators, then quote posts like this and act utterly baffled—“What the hell!?” “WTF!?” “What’s going on here???”—are frauds. It took me less than a minute to see what the court documents actually said and understand what they meant. They do not show that the bullet was not fired from the gun. They show only that the bullet was too fragmented to confidently link it to ANY gun. This is not uncommon, and DOES NOT mean the bullet didn’t come from Robinson’s gun. Of course the defense attorneys are going to spin this as evidence that Robinson is innocent. That is what defense attorneys do. They scrape together every possible fragment of doubt and present it as if it were fully exculpatory. It’s not. Defense lawyers are paid to downplay or ignore evidence pointing to guilt, exploit people’s cognitive biases, and make fallacious arguments sound persuasive. This information about the bullet doesn’t erode the case for Robinson’s guilt in any way. It is totally neutral on that front. And it in no way invalidate the mountain of positive and mutually corroborating lines of evidence we do have for Robinson’s guilt. You should expect more from the commentators you follow, and hold them accountable by refusing to give them your attention in the future. If they could not be bothered to spend even one minute checking the facts before spreading confusion to you and millions of others on X, they do not deserve your attention. They are nothing more than grifting engagement farmers.

I’m very confused about the number of people who think “property tax” is taxes you pay for services you consume instead of a made up asset value the county used to collateralize a bond offering so they could hire 8,000 administrators for a school with a 40% literacy rate.
Rushi@rushicrypto

I’m very confused about the number of people who think “property tax” is a sales tax on you home rather than taxes to pay for public services you use every day. “I paid off my home why do i still pay property taxes?!?!?” Oh, did you also stop using the roads and libraries and sidewalks and parks? Not worried about fires anymore?

𝗝𝗢𝗡 𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗧 𝗝𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝗦𝗔𝗜𝗗 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗩𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗦 𝗛𝗔𝗩𝗘 𝗕𝗘𝗘𝗡 𝗦𝗔𝗬𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝟮𝟬 𝗬𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗦 Give credit where it's due. Jon Stewart — not a conservative — said something more economically honest to Bernie Sanders' face than most Democrats have managed in a decade. His exact words: 𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘧𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘳 𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘭𝘴, 𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘧𝘢𝘳 𝘣𝘦𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯. 𝘞𝘦'𝘷𝘦 𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘪𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘶𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘦'𝘷𝘦 𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘪𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘱𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘢𝗹𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘦'𝘷𝘦 𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘪𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦. He even noted that Trump seems to understand this — that the Democratic model has never been to directly provide anything. It has always been a subsidy to a middleman. Subsidize the insurance company. Subsidize the university. Subsidize the hospital system. Then express outrage when the insurance company, the university, and the hospital use that guaranteed government money to raise prices without limit. This is not a new observation. It is the core conservative critique of government intervention in markets — going back decades. When you remove price signals by guaranteeing payment, producers have no incentive to compete on cost. College tuition has risen over 1,400% since 1980 — the same period during which federal student loan money flooded the system. Healthcare costs have done the same since Medicare and Medicaid expanded coverage without controlling what providers could charge. Stewart asked Bernie the right question: will Democrats recognize the poison pill they've placed inside their own well-intentioned policies? Bernie's response was to repeat the slogan. Healthcare should be a human right. Education should be a human right. Right, right, right — says Stewart. But how do we actually get there without making everything more expensive? Bernie's answer: let's get there. That is not an answer. That is a bumper sticker. Stewart deserves credit for pressing it. The Democratic Party has spent 60 years creating the very cost crises they now propose to solve with more of the same medicine. 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆 + 𝗻𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹𝘀 = 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀. I will never stop being resentful of all the people who cheered on a shutdown of this country. I’ll never let it go. Mostly because 100% of those people were either rich or still getting a paycheck through it all. But hourly guy who needs that overtime? Screw him, right?
