⭕️ The Congressional Research Service — the nonpartisan research arm of Congress that provides lawmakers with independent analysis — has catalogued 42 U.S. aircraft lost or damaged in Operation Epic Fury since February 28, while the Pentagon still withholding a comprehensive accounting from Congress. 📌 Key losses documented: ▪️ 4 F-15E Strike Eagles — 3 downed by friendly fire over Kuwait on March 2, killing no aircrew; 1 shot down over Iran on April 5 ▪️ 7 KC-135 tankers — 2 involved in a March 12 incident over Iraq, killing all 6 aircrew on one aircraft; 5 damaged on the ground at Prince Sultan Air Base during Iranian strikes ▪️ 24 MQ-9 Reaper drones — all lost since the start of operations ▪️ 2 MC-130J special operations aircraft — intentionally destroyed on the ground in Iran after becoming unable to depart; all aircrew evacuated ▪️ 1 E-3 AWACS — struck on the ground at Prince Sultan, reportedly parked on an unprotected taxiway ▪️ 1 F-35A — damaged by Iranian ground fire ▪️ 1 A-10 — crashed and destroyed during search-and-rescue operations The CRS flagged the E-3 AWACS loss (pictured) as particularly concerning, noting it is an aging, limited-quantity platform whose loss could create capability gaps in other theaters. Acting Pentagon Comptroller Jules Hurst testified May 12 that the department’s cost estimate has risen to $29 billion — a figure the CRS report notes independent analysts say significantly undercounts true costs. Researcher Stephen Semler of the Security Policy Reform Institute calculates munitions burn rate and replacement costs as costing over $40 billion of a true 60-day war cost of $72 billion.

🌍 NYT: Iran War’s Ripple Effect: Somalia’s Hungry Are Starving as Food Prices Double and Aid Dries Up As the Iran war closes the Strait of Hormuz into its third month, catastrophe is unfolding across the world’s poorest countries. In Somalia — already ravaged by drought and the dismantling of USAID — rice and wheat flour prices have doubled, diesel has more than doubled, and water costs have tripled at some public wells. The World Food Program warns that those facing acute hunger globally will rise to 363 million — 45 million more than before the war — if hostilities continue beyond June. In Somalia, WFP can only fund aid for 300,000 people a month through July, down from nearly 2 million it was reaching in early 2025. “The pipeline is dry,” said the WFP’s local director. “Beyond July, the pipeline will be zero.” U.S. humanitarian funding to Somalia has collapsed from $467 million in 2024 to under $3 million in the first four months of this year. “Literally, it’s who dies first,” said WFP’s Somalia director, “and who dies next.”

Can't raise minimum wage because it will kill jobs. Can't raise taxes on the bourgeoisie class because it will kill jobs. Can't ditch oil because it will kill jobs. But when these companies replace 50% of their workforce with AI, it's "sorry, that's just the way it goes."

Opinion: It all started going bad when people began idolizing billionaires instead of treating them like the greedy, resource-hoarding, human-exploiting, planet-destroying sick fucks they really are.
