Soon after the @airindia #aircraft from MAA landed at DEL at around 1.15 am on April 29, an old lady rushed from economy and asked if I could make way for her. Her connection was at 2 am, she said. She reached the exit in a jiffy. As I exited the aircraft, I saw her seated in a wheelchair! 🦽 She was still in the aerobridge! Because I’ve heard so much about #wheelchair abuse, I was not even surprised. It’s unlikely she missed the flight. MAA-DEL was delayed by about 20 minutes, but I have never seen a wheelchair passenger rushing ahead and sitting in a wheelchair!!!! There’s always a first!

@RKRadhakrishn @surjithpraveen @airindia That's as convenience to non-disabled passengers. Passengers with Reduced Mobility are first in last out; expected to report to airport an hour earlier than others and despite wheelchair booking, wait time = 20 min. ➕ full-time wheelchair users (WCHC) can't use on board toilet.

24 hours after a missing persons complaint was lodged with J8 Neelangarai, the FIR is still awaited. Others missing on 27th are listed on @tnpoliceoffl missing persons portal, but Janarthanan, a young disabled adult, at risk w/o seizure medication, isn't.😡 🆘 @SandeepRRathore!

Perhaps due to SIR frenzy, arrangements seemed worse than previous years for wheelchair users at booth level. Inadequate wheelchairs. 'Red carpets' on terrible temporary 'ramps' / planks, are the ultimate cover-up jobs! Why would TN's disability sector not go on a RAMP-age? 😡

Kannan (SMA-3) was offered a postal ballot, but his 78-year-old mother, a breast cancer survivor with knee surgery & unable to use a wheelchair, wasn't. Officials told Kannan to submit a request to the returning officer but there was no way to apply for postal voting online. 😡

Tamil Nadu Poll Verdict : After 2 decades it appears that constructing a basic ramp is beyond India. Call for a Special Intensive Revision of polling station accessibility! Polling stations should enter rationalised list only once 3rd party access audit approval document filed.

She was in tears. This is the school in which the polling booth was located: share.google/Wih1HOTET5CxWi… Maduravoyal constituency. Railings are there but the surface is slippery. Permanent cement with tiles on it.

Her husband has a basic Nokia mobile phone. He was looking after her to the best of his ability. I noted down their number. Our elderly citizens need a lot of help when it comes to getting familiar with Digital India. So many of them aren’t aware.

#Votability 👎🏾 When voting is an obstacle course! Meanwhile, @raj_kumar48 shares about his inaccessible Cuddalore booth, "The Presiding officer was non responsive when asked, she said we have given ramp at booth entrance and the hump at the school entrance is not in our scope."

Witnessed an elderly female citizen on a wheelchair go through a lot of difficulty… she had to travel close to 10 kms to vote! Another senior female voter had a fall on her way back from the polling booth as the ramp was slippery. I did my best to help. #TNElections2026

Good to note that volunteers are available for wheelchair assistance. Reports came in earlier today about no assistants in some booths. Also memorable scathing refusal by 2 seniors of decrepit wheelchairs, that "the wheelchairs belong in a museum, not booth." 😅 #Votability

It's still not too late for Presiding Officers and Observers to influence voting accessibility. Yes, polling stations may be a washout (never mind the false promises in court affidavits of permanent ramps and accessible approach) - but voting compartment access is still doable!🔻
