Graham Platner isn’t just our best and only chance to beat Susan Collins, he’s a good, decent man who’s struggled and grown and is always trying to do better. I hope everyone with reservations takes a little time to get to know the real life version of him, not what the algorithm throws in our faces. Clearly, that’s what so many people in Maine have done - from all different walks of life and political persuasions.

Shambolic stuff from Schumer/DSCC. They chase a mainstream businessman/outsider out of the race, pressure people to rally behind Lobster Biden, go neg on the populist guy that is obviously gonna win, and their candidate doesn’t even make the finish line. Woof.

Maine Gov. Janet Mills is suspending her Democratic primary campaign for the US Senate, clearing the way for Graham Platner to challenge Sen. Susan Collins. cnn.com/2026/04/30/pol…

@speechboy71 I dont like Bibi but I dont think he is the only one to be blamed on what happened to the Democratic party and American Jews. The real test for the Democrats will come when Bibi loses the election.

So the responses to this piece are a fascinating example of why it's impossible to have nuanced debates about Israel. One group of responses is from those who say, "How dare you show concern about American Jews," and then spew the genocide blood libel. The people making this argument are generally leftists who, in their complaints, make clear they don't care one iota about American Jews and are, in many cases, blatantly anti-Semitic. The other group of responses is from people who say that I'm blaming Netanyahu for the rise in left-wing anti-Semitism, even though, as I state in the piece, anti-Semites are to blame for anti-Semitism. To the latter point, it's a subtle argument, but in politicizing the US-Israel relationship, consistently siding with Republicans, and ignoring the impact on American Jews, who are overwhelmingly liberal, Netanyahu has driven a wedge between Israel and the Democratic Party. In doing so, he's put American Jews in a terrible bind -- caught between their support for Israel (which is a crucial part of American Jewish identity) and their relationship to the American left and Democrats. Again, I get that this is a nuanced point, but it's striking (though not surprising) how few people on both sides want to wrestle with the argument that anti-Semites are responsible for anti-Semitism in America ... but that Bibi, through his actions, has made the situation even worse for American Jews.

For the @TheAtlantic I wrote about how Benjamin Netanyahu has driven a wedge between the Democratic Party and American Jews … and how that has created a crisis for American Jewry theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/04/…

Not surprisingly, Piker has turned out to be a massive gift to the GOP, which is weaponizing Piker’s commentary. You may not have seen them, but his latest comments have gone viral on right-wing media. Tens of millions of dollars of GOP ads are being written as we speak. This week, The Atlantic’s Chait warned that embracing Piker could cause Democrats to lose an otherwise winnable Senate seat in Michigan. open.substack.com/pub/charliesyk…

Following Josh Barro's demand to punish Israelis b/c "the people elected this government over and over," a similar claim from Jonathan Chait. But while the current Israeli coalition is awful, Netanyahu's previous coalitions included Livni, Lapid, Lieberman, Bennett.

@AGHamilton29 Hasan is trying to play intellectual, but he’s not. Ezra Klein is. And that’s exactly why it’s worse when he legitimizes shallow outrage and bigotry. Different packaging, same grift.

Here are some quotes from Hasan Piker, who Ezra Klein views as a worthy ally for Dems: “I don’t have any patriotism in my heart for America” “The fall of the USSR was one of the greatest catastrophes of the 20th century” China’s political system is “an example that we should learn from.” Beyond all the bigotry, Piker simply hates America, wants to destroy the free market system, and is an open communist. If Dems want to run with that, then they deserve the consequences of the association.

The Saudis want for the U.S. to finish the job in #Iran. Two thoughts here: 1. The Saudis have many assets (oil, financials) to convince Trump they will have his back after the war ends. 2. Interesting that there isn’t much public discussions or criticism in the U.S. towards Saudi for pushing the U.S. to prolong the war
Annmarie Hordern@annmarie

New York Times: Saudi Arabia’s Mohammed bin Salman has been pushing Trump to continue the war against Iran, arguing that the US-Israeli military campaign presents a “historic opportunity” to remake the Middle East, according to people briefed by American officials on the conversations.
