I don’t care if Islam is a ‘race’ or not. I care that there is a religion where some of its followers think it’s OK to behead a school teacher for discussing the religion in class. I care that we are apparently not allowed to discuss these matters without being accused of a ‘phobia’. As with issues around gender identity, refusing discussion is corrosive, harmful and futile.

This is why EVs will struggle to sell in the UK. Too many houses without drives, shared parking spots or first-come-first-served on-street parking. I park outside my neighbour’s house three doors away and pretty sure a lead trailing across three houses would not be appreciated.

What is the global price of gas? Is it NBP or Henry Hub? When you discover the answer you will also discover there is no global gas price, unlike oil. Also, the more oil/gas we extract ourselves, the better for our balance of payments = able to run economy at faster rate. Also, the better for government revenues = more public spending or tax cuts. Also, creates more high-paid jobs = more tax revenues. Also, extracting oil/gas from North Sea a lot cheaper than shipping in from abroad. Also, a lot fewer emissions. Now, what is about the benefits of more North Sea drilling you still don’t understand? If still puzzled just ask the Norwegians, who are fellow social democrats but unlike Starmer-Reeves-Miliband Labour have a firm grasp of energy economics.

The government is the biggest profiteer of everyone when it comes to fuel prices... Fuel duty is 52.95p per litre Petrol is currently about 138 p/l at the pump which includes 20% VAT So that 138 p is made up of VAT 23p Fuel duty 52.95p Total tax 75.95p So for every litre of petrol we're paying 55% in tax The government can shut up about profiteering. If it wants to help with affordability it can cut the ridiculous fuel duty or give VAT relief
