𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐎𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨 𝐒𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐃𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐀𝐦𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞 Habtish says “music and art have the power to bring people together and inspire positive change. Let us hope for a future where they are used to heal and unite, rather than divide and destroy.” Yet you don’t see him denouncing some of the famous mainstream Oromo songs that demonize Amhara and call for our genocide, and are broadcast on state media and government events. 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐚 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐨 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐎𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨 𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐬: “‘Hey Fota Lebash (Amhara), what do you know besides bravado? Since the large Oromo people are coming for you, you need to find a place to hide.’ These kind of genocidal calls are being propagated even on state media. In his song called "Shilelashi", Eskinder Tamiru insults the Amhara people by saying "they know nothing besides bravado.” Andualem Gosa in his song called "Derbeda" says "Amhara you will be wiped out of Addis Ababa.” Yosan Getahun in his song called "Begulo" says "we don't want the culture and relationship with the North (Amhara), we are done." Songs like these that demonize and target one ethnic group, and lay the foundation for genocide being broadcast on state media and state sponsored events makes us deeply fear for what's to come tomorrow. Before the incitement by artists and politicians leads to a genocide on the Amhara people like it did on the Tutsi of Rwanda, we need to come together and stop songs like the ones we heard that incite and call for genocide.” #AmharaGenocide #WarOnAmhara #Ethiopia
