Let’s normalize practicing to the top of our formal education and training, not of our license.

🌠Big win for truth in advertising: Big win for patients! A California U.S. District Court upheld as constitutional CA’s longstanding law that limits use of the term “doctor” and prefix “Dr.” to a person who is a California-licensed allopathic or osteopathic physician. 🧵

@anish_koka Speaking of nurse only hospitals, I am reminded of this gem of a post:

Fully supportive of dropping licensure requirements to practice medicine and shortening path for bright high school kids to go into medicine. There’s enough demand — if the powers that be really want to set up an np/crna only hospital - please go right ahead.
Will Collingford@PunGridDoc

@realdocspeaks Ah, there's the supply and demand dance! Let's face it, keeping doctor numbers low keeps their pockets deep. But it's hardly a step toward better care—time for a new routine?

Again, one of my biggest regrets was voting for President Obama in 2008 as a medical student & celebrating the passage of the ACA Little did I know the carnage it would wreck on the medical profession and my future patients. I had no idea then that the ACA was written to strip physicians of their autonomy, boost insurer profits & drive healthcare consolidation End result 15 years later is a more expensive healthcare system with less competition resulting in lower quality, less efficient care for patients. Coverage is not care! @realDonaldTrump has opportunity of lifetime to fix what President Obama broke 🙏
Barack Obama@BarackObama

Since we passed the Affordable Care Act, Republicans have tried over and over to repeal it. And over and over, they’ve failed — in part because millions of people now depend on the ACA for quality, affordable health care. Now Republicans are trying something different: quietly weakening the law and hoping you won’t notice. We can’t let them.

⭐️This year over 150 scope expansion bills that threatened #patientsafety were defeated in state legislatures. Ongoing collaboration of the AMA Advocacy Resource Center, state medical associations, national medical specialty societies, AOA. 👉 tinyurl.com/yvwyxfwh Details⤵️

MS patients win 👏👏 Education plays a critical role in patient safety; stark difference physicians - APRNs. Gaps in NP education & training put patients at risk. Costs rise when NPs are unsupervised. Scope expansion doesn’t increase access to care. search.app/KbR8M5Y8JrnhYR…

@AndySedlemeyer @wesvirdelltx The law school experience and the law firm environment are very different experiences. As you know, nurses work in the same environment as doctors. Should we have nurses skip med school and become doctors after 2 years on the job? Why or why not?

My paralegal to lawyer bill is getting a hearing this coming week. HB1387 would allow paralegals with a certain amount of experience to take the bar test and be licensed as a lawyer.

@ParlayKingLG @Cayde422 @NemaniSonia LOL, a nurse practitioner, with an online crackerjack box degree and 500 hours of shadowing experience wants to compare themselves to an actual doctor. GTFO.

Hey @elonmusk The UK Government has insidiously been lowering medical standards for years Many extremely avoidable deaths as a result of substitution of fully qualified doctors with quacks who have done a 2 year crash course It’s almost unbelievable, but it’s the next huge scandal to come out

Today I rounded in the hospital on my patients and saw many physicians wandering around away from their family along with dedicated nurses, security, sanitation team, and others. One doctor had a list of 5 hospitals as he checked off patients. Healthcare is a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week job. Many physicians don’t take time off. Thank you to our dedicated healthcare professionals and those who support us!

2nd in series “documenting how the increasing reliance on ill-trained nurse practitioners is imperiling US patients.” “…NP instruction isn’t standardized, & the clinical hours…already a fraction of those completed by physicians—are largely unregulated.” bloomberg.com/news/features/…

@Brixwoof @shitp0sterMD @jbcarmody There’s no such thing as a rigorous NP program; the two are antithetical. Also, years of bedside nursing does not translate to medical practice; nursing is not preparation for being a nurse practitioner.

@shitp0sterMD @Ikat0 @jbcarmody I don’t hold a vendetta at all, the opposite. I know one crappy doctor doesn’t mean they all suck just like I know for every online joke NP there is another who went to a rigorous program, has years of experience, and knows what they’re doing.

Not long ago, Tennessee passed a law that would allow certain international medical graduates to receive a medical license *without* completing residency training in the U.S. But now, doctors on the medical board have refused to create an application for this new license.
