In an effort to simply provide information, I want to share Cole’s CaringBridge page for anyone who would like to stay updated on his journey Updates are being shared there on his healing and care. The intention of this post is not to ask anything of anyone. Please don’t feel compelled to do anything other than pray. I just know many of you have asked, and this is the best way to follow along with his progress. 💙 Cole’s CaringBridge Updates caringbridge.org/site/b61015f2-…

Be gritty. Sometimes that’s just all it is. This is a season and like all things worth working for, it requires grit. I wish I had sometime more profound, but it’s really that simple.

Adjust expectations. Little kids are hard. I’ve yet to meet anyone that says the years between 1-4 were the easiest. So, don’t expect it to be and take it as a win when you get a day that no one yells about a snack.

She waited long enough for me to submit my #tenuredossier 7 years, 3 babies…building family and an academic career at the same time has not been easy, but there’s been a lot of joy along the way. What I’ve learned, a 🧵 @Momademia

Doesn't matter how much tech gets thrown at healthcare - humans heal humans. Full stop. Tech can should support those relationships, not replace them. @familyroomcares asked patients and families drive the solution. Excited to see the response - launching DTC 2025!

There's a whole lot of health-tech companies who think AI must be part of their core messaging. But it's really what investors want to hear; I'm not convinced it'll win over patients or clinicians. x.com/chrissyfarr/st…

@chrissyfarr I recognize my bias in this statement, but nurse scientists are the most underrated asset and untapped resource that could help revolutionize our current care system. Nurses know the problems and have the solutions - they just don't have a seat at the table.

True story: At CNBC, in a prior career, I covered an upstart health plan that really believed that tech - specifically machine learning/AI - would be the core lever to drive behavioral change for its Medicare population. That would improve outcomes & drive down costs. The plan hired a whole data science/engineering team with that thesis and raised tens of millions from tech VCs. I recall speaking to the employees some years later, many of whom were looking for alternative roles at software companies. Can you guess what the most effective intervention was of everything they tried? A nurse visit to the home. Nothing else compared. Go figure.

@femalequotient Update, I'm having another baby in 4 weeks. Nothing has changed. Except for childcare costs - it has doubled. "Enjoy your time off" "Get a Gmail account so you can still stay connected" I still have to use 4 weeks of vacation to get a 3 month leave.

Maternity leave is not a vacation, sabbatical or time off. It's not a form of work-life balance. And yet, so many parents are confronted with the misconception that #maternityleave is a break from work. Parental leave is a full-time essential job caring for a newborn and we don't know about you, but our vacations don't typically involve 2-hour sleep cycles and mom diapers 🫠 👉 @Doc_Het Breanna Hetland via X

@chrissyfarr Further encouragement - its gotten easier, age helps. My 2 year old, I'm still hiding veggies. My 5 year old, picks which veggie she'd like for dinner each night and I have her help me cook them.

@chrissyfarr Food processor & hide them. I'm not a fan of lying to my children, but there's a time and a place.... We rotate: savory pancakes, muffins, anything in a tortilla or roll. Always allow a "dip" Dinner tonight: turkey pep pizza muffins (hidden veggie = carrots)

Have any parents out there had success getting their kids to eat vegetables? If so, what are your ways? Can I learn them?

During a call today, had a founder tell me to “f*ck off” after I politely and matter of factly gave him feedback on why I was passing on investing. (I previously sent him a rejection email with some feedback, but did a follow up call as a favor to him, per his request.) Note: This why investors send vague rejection emails and ignore founders’ request for feedback. But I’m not going to let one person’s bad behavior deter me from continuing to give feedback to founders moving forward. His excuse? “I couldn’t stand being critiqued for 15m on something I truly believe in making work.” 😳 Some lessons for founders: 1. Manage your insecurities and emotions. 2. Be prepared to receive feedback, especially if you’re the one that’s asking for feedback. 3. Don’t attack an investor for giving you feedback, especially if they’re being polite and matter of fact, as they’re doing YOU a favor. 4. And if can’t handle an investor’s feedback, you don’t have the fortitude to be a founder.

Return to office mandates don't just motivate junior people to jump ship. They lose talent at the top too. When tech companies started requiring attendance, senior leaders were more likely to leave for competitors. Flexibility is an investment in retention at all levels.

So, for this latest trip, the two of them came up with a plan. Beloved unicorn kitty was packed in his backpack and sent on an adventure. Along with 76 8th graders from #Omaha, unicorn kitty is getting the trip of a lifetime.
