A towering political figure was making usual visit to a revered Devi temple in the Kashmir hills. A special, elaborate pooja was arranged that lasted nearly two hours. When the priest tried to offer the sacred prasad, it suddenly slipped from his hand and fell straight onto the ground.
It was picked up anyway and tasted.
The moment the prasad touched the tongue, a profound premonition of death hit the person like a wave. Visibly shaken and worried, on the drive back, the person quietly confided to a trusted aide that something terribly wrong was about to happen - dark forces closing in yet the person had responsibilities to the nation that kept the person moving forward.
This was just days before final public speech of the person where the person calmly spoke of the possibility that the person might not be around much longer… and mere hours later, she was gone.

Cute story, completely wrong science. Here's what's actually going on here.
In Sub-Saharan Africa, elephants and hippos live in passive coexistence. They don't interact much, but the situation becomes tense during the summer when water becomes scarce.
When waterholes dry up, elephants often don't tolerate hippos muddying their water and restricting their space.
When elephants arrive at a waterhole, adult hippos generally give way and walk off.
But baby hippos don't yet know the power of elephants.
In this video, a baby hippo is approaching the waterhole. The elephant is shaking its trunk and stomping its foot to assert dominance and scare him away.
The mother hippo, seeing her baby wander into the elephant's space, is rushing to pull him back.
We, humans, tend to anthropomorphise wildlife behaviour --> but the reality is almost always different.
This is resource competition and territorial dominance. Nothing more, nothing less.

Knowing that crocodiles are lurking in the water, it tries to chase the baby hippo back to the safety of its group. 💖✨ When it meets the mother hippo, it’s basically like: “Please keep an eye on your child, ma’am hippo.” 😔

65,000 herero & 10000 Nama people were killed between 1904 - 1908 in what would be present day Namibia. This was the first genocide of the 20th century.
Germany colonised Namibia in 1884 it was one of the most brutal colonies in Africa. The native herero and Nama people lost land, limb and life as german rule and their debt expanded.
After years of theft, abuse & oppression by Germans the herero people finally rose in rebellion what followed was one the most brutal purge by thousands by German troops under General lothar Von trotha.
In August 1904 after the battle of waterberg the herero surrendered but Lothar did not accept it instead he drove thousands of herero into the omaheke desert blocking access to food & water.
"Every Herero found inside German borders, with or without a gun, will be shot"
Thousands of Men, women and children died of thirst, starvation and exposure in the desert. The survivors were put into concentration camps were sexual violence, indentured labour and cruel experimentation were performed on them daily. The Nama rebellion faced the same result.
By the time Germans were done 80% of Herero and 50% of Nama were dead. It took the German government 117 years to recognise this as gencoide
This is just one chapter in the blood soaked book of colonisation

An Indian street dog was repeatedly stabbed to death inside the Golden Temple in Amritsar, India. Its only fault was that it entered the temple premises to escape the summer heat.
This brutal act was allegedly committed by a Nihang (Sikh warrior of the “Guru’s Beloved Army,”) using his kripan, a sacred curved dagger.
