The Alister MacKenzie Institute is pleased to announce our newest publication, a Limited Edition reproduction of Dr. MacKenzie’s first book Golf Architecture: Economy in Course Construction and Green-keeping, published in 1920. Original copies of Golf Architecture are extremely rare, so we’d like to give MacKenzie fans the opportunity to own an authentic reproduction (not a facsimile). Never before has this seminal book by Golf’s preeminent architect been authentically reproduced. We have undertaken a meticulous process of recreating this book in its original form as precisely as possible, using the highest quality materials and production methodologies. From manually typesetting the entirety of the manuscript, to high-resolution image reproduction, to paper sourcing — no stone has been left unturned in our effort to create a reproduction that Dr. MacKenzie would be proud of. A limited production of 1,000 copies, complete with elegant slipcase and commemorative Letterpress card, will be released August 30th, and is available now for pre-order [LINK IN BIO]. We hope you all will enjoy this unique publication as much as we’ve enjoyed creating it.

Everything good about golf architecture lives at Dr. Alister MacKenzie’s Royal Melbourne (West). Highest order on the 147 Custodians and for good reason—it’s what everyone should strive for, with the par 3, 5th among the notable holes on property.

The hills at The Jockey Club can serve as a backstop — if you use them right 👀 Jorge Fernández Valdés stresses accuracy, miss the green and the surrounding slopes can leave you playing blind to the pin.

The brilliant Crystal Downs Country Club from Alister MacKenzie & Perry Maxwell near Traverse City, Michigan is one of the finest golf courses in the country. It’s no wonder both Tom Doak and Mike DeVries call it home, and the influence it has on both architects is evident.

Who routed Cypress Point? There has been a lot of talk in recent years about whether Seth Raynor or Alister MacKenzie deserves primary credit. In the latest ep of Designing Golf, David Normoyle lays out evidence that I think establishes the preeminence of MacKenzie's role. 🧵
