Under Algeria's Ordinance 06-03 (2006), proselytizing by non-Muslims—inciting, seducing, or using materials to convert or "shake the faith" of a Muslim—is a crime. Penalties: 2–5 years imprisonment and fines of 500,000–1,000,000 Algerian dinars (~$3,700–$7,400 USD) for religious leaders; 1–3 years and lower fines for others. Enforcement has targeted evangelical Christians distributing literature or holding unauthorized services.
