@PatrickET There aren’t repeated errors leading to goals. He’s been very good all season.

This is exactly the problem. Every time Matheson makes a costly mistake, the media rushes to protect him instead of calling it what it is. The “but the minutes” argument doesn’t excuse repeated errors that directly lead to goals.

Struble isn't better than Arber. Not saying Xhekaj is a star, but sitting him multiple games in a row for Struble is a choice, and not one I agree with. Imagine all players were held to this standard? Great way to alienate him.

@hanelutson @PinkmansLeftNut You don’t need a 2c who can drive a line if they’re playing next to 2 play drivers. Once again Tampa and Florida won cups without a play driving 2c What McTavish brings that Kapanen doesn’t though is great board battling and power forward elements that that line could really use

@DomUn1que @PinkmansLeftNut We don’t need to improve offensively at the expense of defence. We still need an actual 2C that can drive a line and be responsible defensively. Having a rookie center alongside your future superstar winger is a recipe for getting caved in defensively

Mason McTavish is probably the player we were close on at the deadline. He checks so many boxes. High compete Can play centre and wing Big Power forward elements And he’s most likely available. I think you’d have to give up Kapanen in the deal.

@DomUn1que @PinkmansLeftNut Kapanen doesn’t drive play, he’s decent at finishing plays but he’s benefited greatly from having Demidov and Slaf on that line. Also all his advanced stats are bad. He’s not a true 2C but could be a great 3C

@DomUn1que @PinkmansLeftNut No of course not, I don’t think Kap is 2C material. But ideally whoever is at 2C plays a solid 200ft game. They don’t need to put up 80 pts. And I think it’s more than just being young. Plenty of vets aren’t playing great defensively

@hanelutson @PinkmansLeftNut The second line is incomplete, are you okay with running Newhook and Kapanen next to Demidov long term? The issues defensively mostly stem from having such a young team and learning a new system. We’re going to improve in that area over the coming years.

@hanelutson @PinkmansLeftNut I think if you have a 2nd line of Hage-McTavish-Demidov they’ll practically never leave the offensive zone.

@VezoVezir He doesn’t have Lane’s explosiveness to get back as quickly as he does.

@hanelutson @PinkmansLeftNut I don’t think that’s true. You the likely selke winner at 1c, great defensive 4c in Evans, go find a defensive 3c and you’re fine. Basically every team in the league has at least one centre who isn’t very good defensively.
