@naomirwolf The other day I was passing through my hometown and I walked past a table of two older ladies eating lunch. One of them was wearing my mother’s perfume. I lingered, and I found reasons to walk by again and again. So many memories. Very unexpected how hard that hit me.

Heartbreaking. Scents from the past no longer exist! I ordered Shalimar, the first perfume I was ever given, received when I was 14. It arrived, but smells totally reformulated, very chemical and chemically sweet! No organic musky smell, no real flowers. I had a similar experience with Wind Song, which I had ordered out of nostalgia. Anyone else having this experience? Why wear scent at all?

@SusanBEdelman @read_naveed @DOEChancellor His common sense take gives me hope, TBH. PTAs make up the major shortfall that comes when Title I funding is removed from a school. I don’t think it’s ever helpful to cast aspersions on what people sacrifice to provide for their children and the children of others.

Tone deaf: At the latest meeting of the NYC Panel for Educational Policy, @DOEChancellor Kamar Samuels called it “dangerous and divisive" to "cast aspersions on somebody’s PTA budget.” He was referring to Manhattan’s PS 9 Sarah Anderson, which raised $1M+ last year to hire an assistant teacher for every classroom and fund other extras galore. He had no comment on the glaring inequities.
Susan Edelman@SusanBEdelman

NEW: Parents fighting @DOEChancellor 's plan to wipe-out grades 6 to 8 at a Manhattan community school allege major violations of their rights in deciding the use of federal funds to boost academic achievement by low-income students. “We have never had a meeting about Title I funds,” said parent Tiffany Rodriguez. She is demanding answers. More here👇 susanedelman2.substack.com/p/fighting-fir…

NOTABLE: Ex-NYC schools chancellor Melissa Aviles-Ramos hired Dan Weisberg upon his retirement in August as first deputy chancellor to stay as a paid consultant “to train his replacement,” Isabel DiMola. She is now retiring herself and being replaced by @DOEChancellor. The DOE paid Weisberg, whose last salary was $312,357, another $173.43 per hour, not to exceed $25,000, Aviles-Ramos told @NYCCOIB.

Scam scam scam scam scam. We are so tired of this. HMH took away the READING OF WHOLE BOOKS. Chancellor Ramos was a cheerleader for HMH and look how handsomely she is rewarded. Meanwhile the students of NYC suffer with culturally destructive curriculum. For shame.
Ms. A@mathnerd9130

@SusanBEdelman @NYCMayor @NYCSchools NYC DOE paid HMH over $110 MILLION in the last 3 years. Now the former Chancellor is headed to HMH? Public service shouldn’t become a pipeline to vendors cashing DOE checks. This deserves scrutiny.

Redistricting NYC’s 32 school districts makes sense on many levels. “…enrollment numbers vary from fewer than 4,000 students in Brooklyn’s District 16 to more than 38,000 in Staten Island’s District 31. Merging the infrastructure needed to manage these districts could generate savings and make school administration more efficient.” ~@dany_egorov city-journal.org/article/new-yo…

@SusanBEdelman @DOEChancellor 6,000 additional teachers means that they will just be looking for quantity over quality teachers. A bad teacher, will be much damaging then a larger class size

Price tag: To meet the class-size mandates next school year, NYC would need at least $602 million annually to hire 6,000 additional teachers, and spend up to $18 billion on construction for additional classrooms, @DOEChancellor testfied in Albany. chalkbeat.org/newyork/2026/0…

junior pm: i have to run my first global alignment meeting and i'm freaking out senior pm: what's your plan? junior pm: schedule the call, walk everyone through the proposal, get buy-in senior pm: how many people? junior pm: like 8 stakeholders across 4 time zones senior pm: and you're meeting them for the first time... in the alignment meeting? junior pm: well yeah. that's the point of the meeting senior pm: there's your problem junior pm: what do you mean? senior pm: alignment meetings don't create alignment junior pm: then what's the point? senior pm: they confirm alignment you already have junior pm: i don't follow senior pm: have you talked to any of these 8 people yet? junior pm: i sent them the pre-read senior pm: that's not talking junior pm: so i should... call them first? senior pm: every single one. 1:1. before the big meeting junior pm: that's 8 separate calls just to prep for 1 meeting senior pm: now you're getting it junior pm: seems like a lot senior pm: it's the whole job junior pm: what would i even say in these calls? senior pm: you're not saying. you're listening junior pm: listening to what? senior pm: their fears. their motivations. their hidden objections junior pm: why wouldn't they just say that in the meeting? senior pm: politics. pride. audience junior pm: so they'll tell me privately what they won't say publicly? senior pm: if you ask right junior pm: how do i ask right? senior pm: frame it as soliciting their expertise junior pm: "i'm new to this and want your input"? senior pm: exactly. people love feeling like the wise advisor junior pm: and then i just... shut up? senior pm: shut up and write everything down junior pm: what am i looking for? senior pm: conflicting goals between stakeholders. who wants what and why junior pm: ok say i do all this. what changes? senior pm: two things junior pm: go on senior pm: first, you adjust your proposal based on what you learned junior pm: makes sense senior pm: second, you sprinkle their exact phrases into your presentation junior pm: why? senior pm: people support what they helped create junior pm: even if they didn't technically create it senior pm: especially then junior pm: what about the difficult ones? the ones who'll disagree no matter what? senior pm: you pre-negotiate junior pm: how? senior pm: in your 1:1, you say "i know you have concerns about X. i can't fully address them. can you disagree and commit in the meeting?" junior pm: you can just ask that? senior pm: you'd be surprised how often the answer is yes junior pm: because you asked privately senior pm: because you respected them enough to ask junior pm: so the alignment meeting itself is basically... senior pm: a ceremony junior pm: confirming decisions already made senior pm: in hallways. in 1:1s. in coffee chats junior pm: the meeting before the meeting senior pm: now you're ready to run alignment

I am not moving my family and businesses from Virginia. But something sinister just happened here and I need to take action. I have lived here since I was 6 years old. I have done my share to help build this state up. I have owned a business here since I was 24 years old. I have employed thousands of Virginians. I have invested millions in plant and equipment. I have coached sports, been a leader in scouts, run internship programs, and participated in local philanthropy. I am a political independent. I am for whomever gives me less government. I didn’t get that in the last election. The Virginia Democratic Party has come into power with proposals that seem to be almost comically evil. Massive, business-killing tax hikes. Dramatic increase in regulatory scope. Socialist policies around things like rent control, entitlement spending exploding. Sweeping limits on law enforcement and a reduction in crime consequences that make us less safe. We have went from a Top-5 business friendly state to a place where many of the people in my business community are discussing relocating their business out of the state. I watched this happen in Maryland. I can’t let it happen here. I hate politics. Hate it. I don’t want to run for political office. I have never given money to a state politician. I don’t try to influence policy. I try not to talk about politics too much on X. It’s a boring argument. I also think arguments about R vs D are boring. I have known plenty of moderate Democrats in Virginia that I felt were good public servants. However, the Democrat majority that was recently sworn in is like nothing we have ever seen here. These people are not centrists, and they represent a fringe view that is far to the left of the majority of Virginians. I am now compelled to get much more involved with the political process here in Virginia. We have to grab the wheel before we drive off the cliff. Who should I talk to about becoming more involved in organizing opposition to the current proposals? Who can I support to challenge them in court? Who should I talk to about supporting candidates for future elections that will bring us back to the policies that have made Virginia so prosperous in the past? Looking for specific people I should link up with. That could be Republicans or Democrats or Independents. I know there are many other Virginians from across the political spectrum that feel the way I do. Virginia is worth fighting for.
