I am a biological woman, and support the dismantling of the patriarchy. You are a biological woman, and financially support men who uphold the patriarchy. We are not the same Joanne.

There was a time when left-handed people were ‘corrected’ because it made others uncomfortable. It’s worth remembering how often society gets things wrong before it gets them right, especially with trans people

Today, I was given a permanent ban of posting on my Facebook page, @Meta. The page can exist - apparently - but I am not allowed to post on it anymore. The page has been deemed controversial due to the Giggle v Tickle case and increased popularity of 25,000 new followers in a week. I don't want to labor the irony of being banned on a social networking platform while fighting in court for the right to ban men from a woman only social networking platform, it is what it is. Frankly, I'd love to have the same right that you do, @Meta. Women are routinely punished for not accepting men as women. It doesn't turn those men into women. Nothing will.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s son Knox, 17, just debuted a bright orange hairstyle after a Muay Thai workout in Los Angeles. The look — paired with tiger-print shorts and a casual outfit — is getting a lot of attention online. It just goes to show that even with great genes and unlimited money, you can’t always buy class or style. Do you like this look or is it too wild? (Video: AI)

@nationalpost The connection between transition & violence needs to be studied like any other risk factor. Too many cases in the past few years. Transition may mean overlooking mental illness & porn addictions, taking drugs and it always involves lying & compelled speech. No one changes sex.

Mark Carney was warned that 'polarization' and 'false claims of transgender violence' were circulating online days after the Tumbler Ridge shooting. Deadnaming a trans person with malicious intent in this day and age, is just beyond cruel. If Q wanted to be known by their old name, they'd use it. But they obviously don't. This makes me so angry and makes me despair if this is what we call reasonable debate
The Spectator@spectator

Before being elected MSP for Edinburgh and Lothians East, Q Manivannan – who is a biological male and whose original first name is Srivatsan, but who now uses the pronouns they/them – told party members that they were ‘a queer Tamil immigrant’ from a ‘lower caste’ background. This qualified them to speak for the ‘working class and marginalised’ because they often went ‘hungry and because I was starved… worked and lied and begged.’ According to a Sunday Times investigation, this account doesn’t stand up to scrutiny. It transpires that Manivannan actually hails from an upper-middle class family in Chennai, one of India’s wealthiest cities. While the MSP claims to be the descendant of panoply of underworld exotics, of ‘courtesans, dancers, musicians, hunters and prostitutes’, the Green politician’s father reportedly has degrees in chemical engineering and business administration and their mother had a career in academia. The young Manivannan attended a private school, a private liberal arts and law university, and in 2019 went to work at a consultancy in Delhi which helps the super-rich gain places at international universities. This is all rather awkward for a Scottish Green party that wants to abolish private schools. ✍️ Patrick West Article | spectator.com/article/q-mani…

@AdamZivo Did I miss something? So many problems with this article from not reporting Qs or N or clarifying what 'gender expression' means. And taking a biased view & not exploring claims like the rise in 'hate'. Most disturbing: A 100 mil fund for a 2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan.

The decline in support since 2018 has been significant, and levels are noticeably lower among immigrants and ethnic minorities. For example: 76% of Caucasian Canadians support unrestricted gender expression, while 69% of racialized Canadians do. The numbers get more interesting when you break them down by ethnicity. For example: support levels were at 65% for Black Canadians and 59% for Arab Canadians. Measuring the social conservatism of minority and immigrant populations is important — even if that annoys some progressives by blowing a hole in their “intersectional” myths about cross-community solidarity.
Jason Bradshaw 🇨🇦🇧🇧@JBradshaw01

Media literacy 101: Reading the article shows that a sizable majority of Canadians, across various demographics, support people expressing their gender as they choose. The Post, however, chose to frame the data like this.

The risk of a trans woman being abused or assaulted in the men’s toilet per visit = extremely high. The risk of a woman being abused or assaulted in the women’s toilet per visit = extremely low.
J.K. Rowling@jk_rowling

Follow the logic. Women are deluded and naive for thinking predatory and violent men can be kept out of women-only spaces. ‘They can rape you anywhere.’ However, trans-identified men can only be safe in women-only spaces, because no abuser would ever follow them in there.

The new EHRC guidance on how to ensure equal rights of all to access basic services falls short of being inclusive or workable in the real world - I will continue to work with other MPs who recognise this to navigate how we change that. Given how toxic discussion of trans rights has become am not going to respond to comments here because doubt will help anyone. Posting this video so residents in Walthamstow know of my concerns and actions. Also want to flag to any Walthamstow resident who wants to talk my next open public forum for political debate is on Thursday 28th May at 7pm and all welcome - email my office to rsvp for venue details.

@wesyang For an undergraduate thesis it’s not that bad. She did a considerable amount of work, an original analysis, & thought went into the methods. The writing is better in the analysis (I only read parts). It’s unlikely she would have had multiple readings/edits as an undergrad.

Now, here's the thing. Hitchens was doing hyperbole. This is recognizably the English language. It's not good. It's not distinguished in any way. It is utterly pedestrian work that we like to think of as something you'd see from a community college student, or from the recipient of an athletic scholarship -- but not actually that far off from the baseline norm at the best universities:

You can see in this passage from 2008, in which Christopher Hitchens heaps scorn on Michelle Obama's undergraduate thesis, ("To describe it as hard to read would be a mistake; the thesis cannot be “read” at all, in the strict sense of the verb. This is because it wasn’t written in any known language") the reason why the Great Awokening was soon to be launched. After a decade of Giuliani-ism and Clintonite triangulation (welfare reform, "superpredators", the Crime Bill), cynical white guys, even those nominally "on the Left" (Hitchens had departed it by 2008, but his prior credentials as a figure on the Left were part of what gave him permission to say these things in mainstream publications) felt free to do things they would soon not feel free to do, like belittle and ridicule and denigrate the intelligence of the first black First Lady.

@DineshDSouza I just skimmed it. It’s not bad for an undergraduate thesis. A little light on previous work perhaps and the writing in places isn’t at a level of sophistication of graduate work, but it’s not that bad. It’s based on primary research and reflects a fair amount of work.

Michelle Obama: "All my scores said I did not belong in Princeton.” Of course the scores were right about this. Proof? Michelle Obama’s Princeton thesis, linked in the comment. Christopher Hitchens said of Michelle’s thesis that it is “written in no known language.”
