@KenneyNL Did you check the the Scarlett 2i2 has enough power to properly power your mics? We had a scarlet 18i8 that we loved until we got a shure mic and couldn’t figure out why it was so quiet. We eventually found out the Scarlett’s are known for being a bit underpowered.

A question for audio folks! 🎤 I've built a recording studio but it's completely empty and I want to start recording new foley sounds for free distribution. If you'd have a $1,000 USD budget - what is the equipment you'd buy? (soundproof booth + computer is handled)

@the_curds @Palle_Hoffstein Sadly the best programmers I’ve ever worked with did not get into the industry because they like games. They like math and problem solving and the puzzle of it, it didn’t matter to them if they performed that skillset for games or any other company.

@Seanfrank We tried paid ads on TT and set it to run over the weekend. Came back and their metrics said we had over 100k clicks on our link. Problem is the site it directed to showed exactly two visitors. And they came from Google. When we asked about it they shut our acct down.

Tik tok views are down. People are blaming the new owners... I think this is just proof that tik tok was botting views the whole time. Your 100,000 view video was probably reaching 25,000 people

@80Level @ManusMeta We bought Manus gloves around 2016/17 and they didn’t follow through on APIs and we kept reaching out asking when we could expect the release since we had paid a lot of money for them. They told us after a few months no refunds and to stop contacting them. Terrible company.

@martydudeVR It would’ve really helped as well. We do vr game dev and the quest pro is the lowest performer out of 2,3,3s, Pro and it’s not even close. The Quest2 averages 72fps and the Pro is like mid 50s. It just has too much resolution for its chipset.

@henningsanden We’ve developed multiple games and projects for mobile. We even got a UE4 game to run on an iPad2 back in the early days of UE4. Most recently we launched a mobile game using UE5. Optimizing for mobile with UE requires a more thorough understanding of the engine then Unity.

Why are most mobile games made with Unity and not Unreal? Is it due to any unique features in Unity?

@PeteHegseth My company was making training that was saving tens of millions of dollars a year, under Biden they canceled a ton of work for Ukraine money. The prime lost all their work but ours was kept, so the prime took ours. Theyve been billing since 2023 and haven’t updated it once.

@financedystop Does this lady not take care of her property? Or just not understand the undertaking of caring for a large property? I grew up on a ranch and if you don’t have a tractor you’re just going to fall further behind on maintenance and upkeep…

@TeioStreams @kiwitalkz That’s a grossly oversimplified view of the process. PM can only cover so much when there are difficult bugs, problems with the game not being fun, a bad update from a third party software, etc. and the game still has to be completed before money runs out.

I can absolutely have it both ways when I consistently speak against crunch culture and the use of AI. AI is not the solution to crunch. Better project management is. But for some weird reason people aren’t ready for that conversation and would rather blame “gamers”. Intergalactic is set to release in almost 2 years. Zero reason to be crunching right now, zero reason they can’t push the release window back.

Gamers demands on how games are made are super unrealistic Get mad when devs crunch to get a game out faster, yet you get super mad when games are delayed Get mad when devs use AI in certain aspects of development to speed up how games are made but say that games take too long to make. You can’t have it both ways, it’s just not how the industry works.

@IGN I know some don’t want to hear it, but there is a lot of tedium in game art, lots of professionals who’ve been doing it a longtime can’t wait for AI’s that can do their UVs, collision geo, and retopo for them so that they can have more time doing the fun stuff.

Larian Studios, developer of Baldur's Gate 3 and the just-announced Divinity, is apparently using generative AI behind the scenes. The backlash has been swift and loud, and now Larian founder and game director Swen Vincke has responded to clarify his remarks. bit.ly/4qcNbSz

@virgilthegreedy @IGN We’ve been heading towards a crash since COVID when big studios grossly over hired/paid and hired people with 0 qualifications because they had seats to fill to spend the influx of money for a “new norm” that was never going to last. Us old timers saw it coming a mile away.

@IGN Holy shit, is this some kind of accelerationist movement pulling the strings of the gaming industry or why does it feel like we're going full speed towards another video game crash?

@MelvinDanes1 @ThatNgonGuy Exactly! Also I’m a big fan of iteration, or the “get it made, then continue to make it better” a lot of fresh grads we’ve hired over the years struggle with iteration. They like to be “done” on the first try.

@Downing3D @ThatNgonGuy Hence the production example. They need to just get the work out first, unencumbered. Optimization is an entirely subject dependent skill. Where this asset is going to end up drives everything in production. Technique, steps, conversion, file type etc.

The entire goal of my account is to provide information. I try very hard not to shame people for using workflows that they're comfortable with, but I do very much like to show people how to problem solve and that there's always more than one way to model.

@MelvinDanes1 @ThatNgonGuy While I mostly agree with this, and taught something similar when I taught college. Realtime solutions like games are a little deeper, just because it “looks right” doesn’t mean it’s going to “run right”. But it’s a good pace to start with students.

@ThatNgonGuy I teach students, "If it looks right, then it is right." There may be a more elegant way, a more efficient way, but whatever gets the job done is all that matters. Now in production we don't have all day, so if your way eats two days, and my way uses 2 hours, we're using mine.

Anyone have good reference of the front suspension/wheel hub/control arms of a classic Land Rover Defender 110? There is decidedly limited reference online that isn't either so low resolution or so close-up that I can't tell what I'm looking at....
