Presented at #ASCO25: A 3-year structured exercise program after adjuvant chemotherapy for colon cancer improved disease-free and overall survival, physical functioning, and fitness, as compared with health education alone. Full CHALLENGE phase 3 trial results: nej.md/4mh5RPL @ASCO

A standing ovation for #CHALLENGE trial at #ASCO25 - first in world to definitively show exercise reduces recurrence and improves survival: “For every 16 people, exercise prevents 1 person from recurrent/new cancer” “For every 14 people, exercise prevents 1 person from dying”

Standing ovation at ⁦@ASCO⁩ for the Challenge Trial. Take a look at this comparison of the magnitude of the exercise effect from Challenge versus multiple drug effects.

@perrigame My first PhD student @DrKateEds told me that i was not allowed to say I didn't like olives until I'd eaten 30 olives. She then got me semi-drunk in a fancy wine bar in Birminghamand kept handing me olives . Loved them ever since. 100% recommend 😂

All my friends have gone through the Adult Change where one goes from hating olives to suddenly loving olives, but I have not yet reached that milestone. When will it happen for me? I am starting to feel self conscious around my friends. "Its her, the one who still hates olives"

We will look back at May 28, 2024 as the genesis for the International Society of Exercise Oncology #ISEO and the catalyst for rapid expansion of research and clinical practice of exercise medicine as a cancer therapy across the World. Dr Kathryn Schmitz @fitaftercancer opening our meeting to over 200 participants with resounding support for the formation of #ISEO. @ACSMNews @ESSA_NEWS @CEPAupdates

Forty+ years working in the field of exercise science and I cannot believe that this turf war between allied health professions is still being perpetuated. This is so damaging to Australian health care. I was very disappointed and frustrated this week when the Australian Physiotherapy Association released a “factsheet” denigrating Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs) with a series of inaccurate and misleading statements. AEPs are the most qualified and experienced allied health professional for assessment, prescription, and monitoring of clinical exercise. AEPs are especially effective in supporting patients with chronic diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, overweight and obesity, osteoporosis, sarcopenia, hypertension, chronic kidney disease, COPD, stress, anxiety, and depression. It should be noted that these are the diseases causing most of the health burden in Australia and clinical exercise has been proven through extensive research to be one of and in some cases THE most effective treatment. AEPs receive far more university education, training, and clinical practice in exercise than ANY other medical or allied health profession. University degrees in exercise physiology are accredited by the professional association, Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA), under stringent requirements. AEPs must be graduates of accredited degrees and meet yearly requirements to retain accreditation. Medical and allied health professionals should be referring patients to an AEP for clinical exercise because it is a highly complex and specialised field. A cardiologist would never attempt to manage chemotherapy for a patient with cancer. For safety and effectiveness, it is crucial that medical and allied health professionals work within their scope of practice. It is also critical that we don’t denigrate other accredited professions. The President of Exercise and Sports Science Australia has released a statement essa.org.au/Public/News_Ro… Here is a link to the APA factsheet australian.physio/advocacy/valui… @ESSA_NEWS @apaphysio
