New Oxford University study on BBC reporting of 'transgender' people: Since 2000 in the UK • 11 were murdered (mostly killed by their male partners). This generated 137 news stories • 20 committed murder. This generated just 58 news stories, of which only 23 mentioned trans

@SexMattersOrg @UniofOxford This is a poor quality study and isn’t how violence research works. You don’t infer risk by comparing “victim vs perpetrator” counts within a small, ill-defined subgroup with no population denominator. It’s statistically meaningless and easily misused.

As: 👉 More transgender perpetrators than victims. 👉 Ratio for natal males is more like male population than female. 👉 But @BBC reported more homicides with trans victims .

@bargaincryptid @AliArthPainter Being an unreliable narrator isn’t the same as intentional deception. A single case of someone fabricating symptoms doesn’t invalidate diagnoses any more than the Rosenhan experiment did.

@AliArthPainter Have you ever worked in mental health? Many, many people aren't reliable narrators. One of our clients explained he'd been shot the night prior. It was cellulitis. One woman was found bleeding. She'd given birth within the hour. She didn't know that. Just walked off.

Capitalising on your fictitious disorder to invalidate people seeking gender-affirming care is not the flex you think it is. Also, this genre of story has a terrible impact on disabled people because it pushes the idea that people aren't reliable narrators of their own symptoms.

@soigomaa It’s based on individual risk factors. The doses should be reduced in older trans people as they would be with cis people. By the time someone is menopausal age their risk of these things is much higher.

This might be controversial but why can the transgender community safely take high doses of estrogen or testosterone, but a menopausal woman is told no because it causes cancer, heart attacks or stroke?
