Consultant Anaesthetist in NHS to ask uncomfortable questions and disrupt. If you need medical advice, consult a Dr in real life- not on X.

For those of you that don't know, you can see below what @Katie_Lam_MP had to say to parliament about Doctor replacement She would rather patients in her constituency see someone without a medical degree, than a fully qualified Doctor who may be from another country

Doctors trained overseas are 2.5 times more likely to be referred to the medical regulator for malpractice. It's totally insane that the NHS is prioritising overseas doctors over our most talented medical graduates. It's a terrible deal for doctors and patients alike.

Resident doctors have been left with no choice but to strike. Weeks of negotiations with the Government have failed to deliver enough progress on pay, with the goalposts being moved at the last minute. We have called six days of industrial action to make the Government listen, stop the game playing, and come back with an offer that delivers fairly on both jobs and pay.

Dear students in the UK, if you haven't had your teenage meningitis vaccine or aren't sure if you have had it, PLEASE arrange with your GP to get vaccinated nhs.uk/vaccinations/m… It helps prevent tragic deaths like those that have occured recently in Kent.

If were a Dr working under these conditions; I would refuse to be supervised by a non Dr. A bit like a control tower person supervising a trainee pilot. The lines of responsibility, indemnity and governance pathways are unfit in this situation. The jobs are different.

There are 14 Nurse Consultants in Lincolnshire teaching hospitals who are officially allowed to work at the level of consultant physicians and SUPERVISE RESIDENT DOCTORS. This is the future of your healthcare.

@wesstreeting I am pleased to hear it. But think about the treatment you got when you needed it. Patients want a properly trained Dr. Not a wannabe ‘cos they couldn’t get into med school but still want to play Dr. Stop ARRS.

@cpeedell @TheBMA @BMAResidents Facts we know. Stinky offer. We can run service safely- it just costs a lot. This is the time to press home. The SoS has shown himself to be incompetent and sunk to throwing insults. #IncompetentWes

@Dr_DoctorGas @TheBMA @BMAResidents Agree with that 100%. Offer stinks. This is more about postponement due to crisis risks, not stopping IA. It might not be easy to do from a union law legal perspective. I accept that

I’m a big supporter of #Resident doctors’ strike action because pay erosion has been shocking, but the #NHS and the nation is now in an Emergency situation with Flu. The numbers are scary. It’s time for @TheBMA @BMAResidents to *postpone* the strike until this crisis is over.

@DrHWazir @wesstreeting Perhaps @TheBMA should follow that with a vote of no confidence in the SoS for health. Maybe other healthcare unions should follow suit.

@wesstreeting You say you want a partnership, yet you call us ‘moaning minnie’s’ and ‘juvenile delinquents’ in the next breath? That’s not the language of someone who wants to build bridges. I will be voting no, and I encourage all resident doctors in England to do the same.

I think the public would be appalled if I went ahead with the offer while they’re left suffering Christmas strikes. I don’t want this transactional relationship with the BMA, I want a partnership. I hope we can build that in 2026 if RDs vote for the offer and end the strikes.

@wesstreeting Do you think the public are happy with you horse trading with things they want you to fix, just because the BMA want it fixed as well?

@SCynic1 The main issue from the strike is not patient safety. We can maintain that. The thing is it costs and arm and a leg. Far cheaper to do right things and find amicable solution. What has been presented is a trick by a charlatan.

You burnt any trust doctors initially had in you when you reneged on promises made in 2024. Plus, they’re bright and scientifically minded people; “trust me bro” ain’t gonna cut it. Provide clarity. Show your numbers. Show your workings out.

You missed the part about emergency legislation to deal with UK prioritisation, which will kick in for the current application round - reducing the ratio of applicants to places from 4:1 to *less than* 2:1. Was than an oversight? Or are you wilfully misleading BMA members?

Ex-Labour voter here (I didn't vote Labour to get a Tory SoS). Numbers don't add up. E.g, GP ST1 apps 2025: 20995 applied for 4276 posts (ratio 4.91:1). To get a ratio of 2:1 you'd need 6222 new training jobs. This is not happening. Who is misleading the public @wesstreeting? 1/2

I'm appealing to resident doctors to vote for this deal, which will boost job opportunities and put more money in their back pockets We can draw a line under the strikes before Christmas. We can end the disruption and rebuild the NHS together.

This is a con. With regards training - there is also CESR path which many doctors are taking. Many are not in ANY post. THERE IS NO POST EXPANSION. There will not be more Dr’s on the floor. This is the worst I have ever seen for residents. Reject this deal.
Wes Streeting@wesstreeting

Emergency legislation on prioritisation of UK trained doctors + 4,000 extra specialty places (1,000 immediately) = a cut in competition for training places from 4:1 to less to than 2:1. Not at some point in the future, for the current round. These are not grounds to strike.
