@wongmjane BTW also listen to/read Daniel Suarez's prescient 2012 novel "Kill Decision"... short version is with AI controlled drones powerful people can easily kill anyone they want without having a whole bunch of people who might object involved...

AI replaces all white collar jobs Robotics replace all blue collar jobs Everyone gets laid off, uses up all their savings, and economy collapses Any bill for UBI gets blocked and lobbied by the rich and powerful. The permanent underclass left to starve and die off …?

@Number10cat Good point, I forgot about the upcoming season... Also entertainingly half the clocks in the House show different times to the other half (the ones that adjust themselves), and I just realised it isn't nearly midnight but coming up to 11pm... oh dear...

A reminder to all my friends across the UK that British Summer Time starts tonight at 1am so don’t forget to put your clocks forward an hour and get your snow shovels ready!

@afneil Remember that while it's bad it's not as bad as it seems. Generally with Warships you expect 1 in 3 to be operational at any time (possibly more in emergencies). The others are 1/3 being maintained/upgraded and 1/3 being prepared for operations. Ballistic Missile Subs are 1 in 4.

The current state of the Royal Navy: 2 aircraft carriers — neither operational. 6 Type 45 destroyers (our most powerful warships) — one operational (in Cyprus). 7 Type 23 frigates (less powerful, much older) — three operational 5 Astute class nuke-powered subs — one operational (in Arabian Sea?). Surely those responsible for this appalling state of unreadiness (a national embarrassment if ever there was one)— political, civilian and military — should be fired/charged. Their incompetence has effectively left us without a navy. Quite an achievement for an ancient island nation.

@Malwarebytes So the Internet suggests the reason my computer crashed with a farflt.sys error and won’t reboot is down to Malwarebytes. I run Pro on Win10 with the latest (Mar 26) patches. Any comments/help pls? I have no version, account or serial info as the computer won’t boot

The French satirist Francois Rabelais wrote a will that consisted of one line. It reportedly said: ‘I have no available property, I owe a great deal; the rest I give to the poor’.

Is it wrong I love the translator that outputs Linkedin posts from your input? (It's a real thing BTW.) Here's one I just did:

@JoeVille5 @JohnCleese @grok I'm confused about what you find insane? All the very racist/untrue comments in replies here are clearly a (very scary) candidate (1920s and 1930s all over again), or was it the woman getting arrested when she physically interfered with their stand? Not so Christian behaviour!

@JoshuaDalzelle @Sonos All my Gen-1 stuff still works great, I bought a Roam-2 and set up a Gen-2 system but it can't stream Spotify without dropouts to save its life... Oh and the return instructions are contradictory (just use QR code or print customs form in triplicate from non-existent printer)?

So is @sonos a dead duck now? No real effort to return aesthetic or functionality. Still a lot of expensive gear that barely works. Is there an alternative 3rd party software that gets it back to what it was a decade ago?

@McmeekinIan @afneil I think it's more 1 in 3 deployed, so we're still missing somewhat there, although it's 1 in 4 for Ballistic Missile Subs... or less and you just work the crews so hard they all quit...

@afneil I think it is important that people realise the basic rule of thirds! If you have a fleet of six ships, normally you would have 2 in maintenance, 2 readying for deployment and 2 on the way back from deployment. What is not usual is ship in dock for years. Type 45 PIP excepted

This is a remarkable table. It shows that to all intents and purposes the UK currently doesn’t have a navy it can deploy. It is a national scandal. But, of course, nobody — political or military — will be held accountable, much less sacked.

@54JohnBull But we'll be winning multi-million £ lawsuits against websites in countries like U.S., Russia, China, Iran to finance all this, tho alas suffer from lawsuits from those countries against UK Govt., unless the World agrees the UK can sue other countries and they can't sue us...

From a comment that came up in my post of yesterday it turns out that Imgur, the biggest image sharing platform on the internet, is no longer available in the UK. The overreaching demands of Ofcom for ID verification will quickly turn the UK internet into a walled off area. It will soon not be just the likes of Pornhub that you won't be able to see in the UK. Get your VPN's operating 24/7.
