City staff have been told that council layout approval has never been mandatory, it's just been done as a courtesy. The 1st Avenue N reconstruction was one of the first projects to bypass council approval and go straight to final engineering.

Very sad to hear The Lowry in Uptown is closing. Maybe the Minneapolis City Council can stop screwing around legalizing bathhouses and instead work to do something to help the collapsing hospitality industry in their city.

@MorePerfectUS @NYCMayor One issue I have heard is that sourcing food could be hard. The suppliers won’t allow them to sell under cost because that would undermine their other customers, I wonder if that has to do with it.

BREAKING: Zohran Mamdani is fulfilling his campaign promise to open 5 city-run grocery stores across NYC.
@NYCMayor told us the stores will:
- Offer staple goods at a reduced price, subsidized by the city.
- Contract a private vendor to run the stores who will be required to pay workers union wages.
La Marqueta in East Harlem, first opened as a public market by Mayor LaGuardia in 1936, will house one of the stores.

The conversation on here about Uptown is just really disconnected from reality. I am there a lot, just drove through and saw 3 businesses between 28th and 31st with lines out the door. Was out at LynLake on Thursday at a packed bar for the Wild game.

@gonitz88 I live there too - Since 2017? Yes, obviously. But it is not the hellscape that some people make it out to be. And I think some of the doomerism does a disservice to the good folks that are working their asses off to keep their businesses alive during some major headwinds.
