I am aware of the ICE-involved fatal shooting in South Minneapolis this morning. I will keep you updated as I learn more.

Joint statement from the entire Minneapolis City Council:

I am horrified and heartbroken by the shooting at Annunciation Catholic school this morning. My prayers are with the children, families, staff, and clergy affected by this unspeakable act of violence.

I want to thank all first responders that rushed to the scene to protect our community. I will keep you updated as more details emerge.

Costs are too high—especially for housing. Projects like the renovation of Spring Manor are critical to provide affordable, stable homes and a better quality of life to generations of Minnesotans.  We need to keep building homes to lower costs across the country.

Today, @SenTinaSmith,@MayorFrey, @HennepinD2, State Rep Sydney Jordan, @MplsWard3 and @HUDgov gathered in Northeast to unveil MPHA’s next major high-rise redevelopment project, the largest in the city’s history: bit.ly/65MSprings

This ordinance will streamline the process for converting empty office and commercial space into much needed housing. Creating a broad spectrum of housing options in downtown will add vitality and vibrancy where we currently have vacancy.

The City Council has commandeered an airboat for the Aquatennial Torchlight Parade. @MplsWard3 is driving.

@MayorFrey @MplsWard5 It is so important to have a place to call home and be able to lay down in the same bed every night. I also want to highlight that nearly one third of affordable units approved in 2022 are located in the Third Ward.

Today I joined @MayorFrey and @MplsWard5 in Ward 5 to celebrate the progress Minneapolis has made in affordable housing production, especially deeply affordable units. I am proud to have supported every affordable housing project that was approved by the City in 2022.

Today my colleagues and I passed a Council Resolution, that I co-authored, celebrating Slice Pizza as the first local Black-owned pizzeria in the City of Minneapolis.

I’m confident new Friends of the Falls President Shelley Buck, along with the Native-majority board of directors, and other Native community leaders will create a place of healing and public education along the river that we should all support and cherish as a city.
