After several decades of evidence, we know that zoning: ✅ restricts housing supply, adding to the delay of starting a family ✅ makes homes unaffordable for starting or growing families ✅ limits childhood independence ✅ prevents grandparents from living in the same neighborhood as their family ✅ forces everyone in the family to drive or be driven to all the things Zoning is anti-family. Change my mind.

@chriswithans Members of the 1946-64 cohort have been "exiting the program" for some time. As for Millennials bearing the burden... currently 6% of US workers earn over the SS taxable max. We may see the max increased, but I doubt we'll see an increase in the tax rate that would hit all.

The youngest boomer will be 67 in 2032. That will also be the age of the oldest Gen Xer. The oldest Millennial will be 51. Boomers will be exiting the program while some Gen Xers will have already taken out 5 years of benefits. It’s Millennials who will bear the burden of any tax increases and will also be the first group bearing the full brunt of any benefits cuts. They’re also the group that will take the biggest hit from any increases in inheritance taxes.

@sdcta It's worse than "population grew by ~2%" would imply. In the CA DOF pop estimates that exclude group quarters (dorms, barracks, etc), by end of 2024 we were still 22,300 BELOW the 2018 peak population. Recent increase is replacement of loss not growth

While Mission Bay restrooms are closed due to lack of funding, #SanDiego city council personnel expenditure continues to increase. "From fiscal year 2022 to fiscal year 2026, San Diego’s population grew by about 2%. During that same period, the City Council’s staffing grew from 109 positions to nearly 160 - enough to give most council offices about 16 staff members. @_Murphy_Dan Per-capita is a terrible measure for transportation casualty comparisons. This table illustrates multiple reasons why. It does not capture exposure. It does not tell us how many riders nor how far they ride. Per-capita country-to-county and ebike-to-bike is not meaningful.

About 20% of the population is "Baby Boom" gen. About 21% are millennials but only about half have children. So they are roughly comparing 20% of the population to a 10% sized group - and surprisingly, the ratio comes out to 28%:16% or about the same. About 85% of all detached single family homes are 3 or more bedrooms -there are not many smaller homes. This reporting seems misleading.

At the East Midtown Public Realm Improvement Fund Governing Group (EMGG), we voted unanimously to approve $39 million to advance the design and construction of the Park Avenue Vision Project. If car traffic on a street should be 25 MPH, then engineer it for 25 MPH. That means skinny lanes and "fixed off-road objects" and tighter corners are totally acceptable.
