@TracyZager @gfletchy I love this game. Similarly, @mminas8 has a great game "Reverse Land Grab" which promotes thinking about area, factors, prime and composite numbers which my grade 3s are enjoying.

Kids math data should be private. All those rocket ships and ice cream cones where they are in these competitive fluency races against each other does not motivate the ones who need it the most! Individual data binders where kids track their own data is what works!

Students worked several weeks on this collaborative art project, inspired by Colin Smith’s “1 KM of Florenceville.”Gr. 3 called their piece “1 KM of Centreville.” They represented each building between HSF and MetalFab. This is a 5 panel piece. 4-5 ss worked together per panel.

@therevngraham You take a picture of the math question and the app spits out the answer and how you should write it down so it looks like you solved it on your own😑

A couple of kids refused to work in groups. After affirming how they were feeling, we offered choice. Choosing to remain on their own, a few kids made their way over to extend an offer to collaborate. They accepted. This is why we in believe and trust kids. @HumResPro @Math4HF

All too often, I hear things like "My Ss couldn't do that..." or "This class can't handle the grade (x) work." We need to give our Ss access to grade level content through worthy tasks, with the appropriate supports. You'd be surprised by what you find out. This podcast❤️ #mtbos

I just spent 3 hours with my 8th grader relearning & then teaching how to graph linear equations. I can’t think of a time I have used this beyond a test. Can someone help me with how this is relevant to 8th graders or 43 year olds? @alicekeeler?

"Tasks that lend themselves best to discussions are tasks that we would consider to be high level, or... cognitively demanding...tasks for which there is no specified pathway as to how you would solve it. So that Ss actually have to think, reason..." - Peg Smith #mtbos

@katiemartinedu It's not. The traditional way we teach math lacks relevance, context, and joy. I recommend you follow @Mathgarden who has a lot to say on this topic
