@maybe_ellen @helenstaniland i always ask them if their father is a nice man and if he should be allowed into women's toilets. they usually don't answer of course, but when they do say "no" it's fun to see them attempt explain why.

Maryam blocked. Guess she doesn't think my husband should be allowed to stand next to her in a female bathroom but are too cowardice to say so. Or in the words of @helenstaniland : "Transactivism - a movement that fails to state what rights it's fighting for on the grounds that it may incriminate itself."

@hecubian_devil Objectively, factually, Obama is a war criminal with mass civilian deaths on his hands, the decision to roll your eyes and give him a pass and call it bad politics to mention it or care is a moral and political one that will alienate many people.

Village mindset. Many leftists are chiefly concerned with looking inward and regulating the belief and behavior of “the community,” meaning an imagined community of other leftists. In such a hypothetical group, one might reasonably assume that Obama is viewed unfavorably, while Zohran is viewed mostly-favorably. Thus, there’s a concern about Zohran ‘polluting’ the community by associating with Obama. He’s perceived as ‘allowing’ this interloper—someone who, the critics feel, ought to be barred from the community, marked as ostracized—to contaminate the carefully-regulated beliefs and behaviors of the community. This is a really bad way to do politics when you are, in fact, a small minority community embedded within a much larger and diverse set of communities, as America is. The endless obsession with controlling “the community” comes at the expense of looking outward at the people we must persuade—their beliefs, their behavior, their affinities. It’s a bad way to do things when your community isn’t in control! When you need to bring more people into alignment with you! But the kicker is that there really isn’t even a leftist “community” that has coherent methods of governing itself! It’s largely imaginary! It’s doubly foolish. It’s unfortunate that so many leftists see the work of building socialism as the work of building this internal socialism of belief and identity within a small community—they seem to feel that if we can create socialism in microcosm, that it will somehow then assert itself and ascend to power. They seem to see our failures as chiefly a failure of not creating this community with sufficient piety and unanimity. That the task before us is an internal task of purification and homogenization. That we must first become a miniature socialist republic before anything else. It’s a deep, fundamental misunderstanding of the work before us.
gare davis@bishonentype

The idea that Zohran is “laundering” the reputation of Obama, rather than using Obama’s widely positive reputation to promote social democratic policies, is so absurdly disconnected from the politics of the working class

This is just obviously bullshit when you think about it for more than two seconds. Men openly and proudly proclaim that they believe women are inferior to them in every way, basically akin to animals, then claim they “love women.” They just think their negative views are normal.
Scarlett Maguire@Scarlett__Mag

Strikingly, young women are *a lot* more negative about the opposite gender than young men. ✴️U30 women are 3x as likely to hold a negative view of young men than the other way around ✴️Just 35% of u25 women hold a positive view, only 11% a very positive view

@Dryssa4 @Aella_Girl For more context, I wear breast forms every waking hour for the last 10 years, and most of the summer I am in a skirt rather than pants or shorts. Other than a few odd looks, I've never had a negative interaction in public, & I live in the most conservative part of Alberta

i just. cannot believe that women have significantly greater cultural pressure to perform and conform than men do. i just don't. I think what's going on is women are significantly more affected by social pressure and thus feel a greater desire to war against it
Zoya🕊️@Zoya_ki_batein

critiquing this monologue for being entry level feminism is fair but i continue to believe that’s the exact point. this for the ten year old girls in the audience who haven’t learnt this yet. it’s to take the weight of their tiny shoulders for the first time. that’s a nice thing

@Aella_Girl Agreed. As a man, there are certainly social pressures on me, but I can ignore those pressures with far fewer larger consequences to my life than most women can. I'm aware of the pressures, but also aware that I won't be penalized as harshly for ignoring them.

@Atla5drugg3D @sylintactgrate @hollowearthterf Yeah, there are bubbles everywhere. I’m 40 and mostly associate with 20-40 y/o leftists and liberals. I’m overwhelmingly (like 95-5) more likely to hear anti-man sentiment than anti-woman. I accept this may be unusual though!

It may well be your bubble bc outside of that, it's definitely socially acceptable to bash women in right wing spaces, religious spaces, etc. Idk how old you are but I definitely think it's become far more common amongst Gen Z men. On top of that, we have the entire manosphere built up around attacking women & I mean, those guys are raking in the cash so can we really say it's not "socially acceptable?"

@sylintactgrate @Atla5drugg3D @hollowearthterf This doesn’t align with my experience at all, but I’m in an anti-religious lefty bubble, so maybe this is a me problem. I would question what % of men are like this, and I would assume the original data is driven by it being socially acceptable to bash men but not women.

@Dryssa4 @SaveTheLibs @Vin_Diagram @GeodesicForce @JamesSurowiecki I agree. I felt like your initial response was arguing an easy “feels” takeaway: that the less imposing option is always more morally right. A libertarian point of view One of many points disputing that: often laws forcing behavior are required to preserve the rights of others

There's no good civic argument for the electoral college. It was arguably necessary to ensure the ratification of the Constitution, but it's an anti-democratic device that gives some American citizens far more voting power than others, based purely on where they live.

🤣 Wyoming is one of the top budget surplus states. We bank money every year, You should know that the first thing we will do is shut off your water (Colorado River Compact) and electricity. No worries though, we will let you buy the water. It’s going to be very expensive though. About that electricity, things are going to get a lot more expensive for the entire west coast..a few other liberal states too. We are a mayor energy exporter, we sell about 60% of the electricity we generate. We will also begin collecting tolls to traverse interstates 25 and 80. We’re the crossroads of the nation. This is just a starting point.

@JeloikT @SaveTheLibs @Vin_Diagram @GeodesicForce @JamesSurowiecki I was only speaking to specifically the abortion example you brought up. A law banning something enacts force on people, a law allowing something enacts force on the government to not restrict citizen rights. Some are "right", some are "wrong".

@Dryssa4 @SaveTheLibs @Vin_Diagram @GeodesicForce @JamesSurowiecki Taxes, gay cake, pronouns, gun regulations, school districting and busing, dei, book bans, voting ID. All things forced on some who don’t want that. Are you suggesting that if a law is allowing something. That it’s morally “right”? What about laws against murder and stealing?

@SaveTheLibs @Vin_Diagram @GeodesicForce @JamesSurowiecki Totally. It’s a weird mental block. People strongly dislike other’s morals forced on them, (for ex, saying Roe v Wade is evil and how dare someone tell women what to do with their bodies), then seek to implement laws to force others to do what they want

@A2020_ema @LovinCanada @taradublinrocks @joerogan You should really examine your political worldview and sources, because you're being fed inflammatory slop. 1) Ukraine is defending itself against an aggressor. Wars of defense are generally good to support. 2) Biden didn't "fund a genocide" any more than any US prez would have

@Dryssa4 @LovinCanada @taradublinrocks @joerogan So you voted for someone who funded the start of a genocide and funded the disastrous war in Ukraine. All while having dementia. But guess what.. I’m not gonna blame you, or be mad at you because I’m not an idiot.

@forestvanslyke @redfollowsred Because if you poll people you get a portion of the public identifying as it, which makes it a “real” identity. Also the people who ID as nb do generally share some traits, so it provides some useful info about them.
