“Would you risk your life for people who are bad at expected value problems?” The answer is straightforward. Either you care about the outcome or you care about looking like a heckin’ good person.
Tim Urban@waitbutwhy

Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?

@Saf96231355 @Doriteaux @RealDianeYap You say that because you are not looking at all the arguments. It's a private vote. Many people would change their vote if the situation ACTUALLY HAPPENED and NO ONE WOULD KNOW WHO VOTED WHAT. Both are trying to make moral arguments. Believe them or don't. Doesn't change anything

@DudeWithTheFlag @Doriteaux @RealDianeYap >One side put the other side's life in danger, because they are cowards. >The other side presumes/hopes there are not too many idiots <both sides have a moral claim idk bro, it seems more like an IQ test that many are failing.

@emilykmay First point was right, second one was wrong. Acting as though men wouldn't ALSO step up in the absense of women is just toxic assumptions and nowhere near reality.

if men stopped doing all the heavy duty, necessary, dirty jobs that make the world run...women would do them. we already know this, it happened in WWII. if women stopped doing the thankless, routine care work that makes the world go round, vulnerable people would be neglected.

@keirimin @ItsRobbAllen 1) you don't know. its all so fucked. 2. Anyone who voted blue for the right reasons would FORGIVE the red-voters if the vote was revealed. If they secretly didn't vote blue for the right reasons, then they have no room to judge. 3. You're right, lets just all bum-rush the killer

@ItsRobbAllen All the red buttoners arent asking important questions 1) why should I trust red will save my life? 2) why should I trust the vote will remain private after blue wins 3) how is this death happening and how do they know what you choose if private So quick to trust Squid Games

We're over here arguing who is a better person for picking the red or blue button without focusing on the real issue What monster threatens nearly killing half of humanity for an internet poll?

@Nutguy2100 The fact that in the scenario the vote is private really screws up the situation even more than some of these people realize lmao.

For the record if you think this is a "Kill libtards button" you are horribly mistaken, did you guys actually fall for the idea that these are kind or selfless people?

@AlexGodofsky Am i reading this wrong? Because obviously if THAT is the case and you saw the tallies like that, you would vote blue, right? RIGHT!?!?!?😂 ya bunch of hooligans...

We did the red/blue voting thing and everyone else voted and now it's your turn. The vote tallies are suddenly revealed to you and the vote is exactly 50/50. If you vote blue everyone lives, if you vote red all the people who voted blue die. How do you vote?

@peterrhague @DaBullStandard Blue wins on a meaningless internet poll because there are no stakes except the display of virtue. I guaran freakin tee if this was a real world scenario with actual stakes, people will pick red no question.

Amazing how lots of self appointed game theory experts confidently asserting that blue is the stupid choice. But every time this poll is run blue wins. Not only is the “game theory” answer predicting the wrong outcome, its explanatory power is based on it being able to predict the right answer. So it’s doubly wrong.

@math4feminists Ok but i gotta point out, the inmate one is bogus if it's their own damn fault for commiting a crime. Maybe show the statistic for alleged false imprisonments instead?

@moopoomdfs @Doriteaux @RealDianeYap The question was set up in a way to have a split vote, and the closer the vote, the more the stakes matter and the more the arguing ensues. Red is the superior choice in a way, but blue is maybe the more likely one. Shows you how people just won't agree on anything lmao.

@josh_uglyasf The problem is once you've identified and thrown out the bad one, someone else comes along and sneaks it back in along with a few more bad ones hoping you don't notice.

@ColinJSharpe @RealDianeYap Wrong. The best reason to pick blue would be to save people. (The best reason to pick red would also theoretically be to try to save people.) You say "pick blue because look how many pick red" is retarded, because that just HURTS the case for blue.

@RealDianeYap Of course you’d say this. The best reason to pick blue is to look at all the people in the replies and QTs defending red. Sociopathic midwits. In a worldwide vote, millions have sub 70 iqs and won’t get the game theory. The smart people will recognize that and protect them.

@Zlacher88 No, he doesn’t agree with what I’m saying. None of you do. You want female jobs and think women should do male jobs while also having babies. It doesn’t make any sense.

It’s so tiring seeing this type of nonsense. Why don’t women compete for jobs they can’t do? 🤦‍♀️ Gee, I don’t know, why aren’t men signing up to have babies? There is such a “birth crisis” why dont men have the babies then? Oh, that’s right because they can’t. 🙄 Telling women they should sign up for jobs they physically can’t do so the office feminine style jobs they can do should be for the men is the height of stupidity. Talk about destroying civilization, encouraging women to have babies AND do physically dangerous work so men can do feminine work is completely nonsensical! Knock it off!

@AntiCommieBecca @Polymarket You girls need to start competing with us here. Why didn’t you “compete” for these jobs?

@Doriteaux @RealDianeYap If it ends up being a close vote (close to 50/50), then there's no difference, both sides have a moral claim, but if you picked red, you atleast get the insurance of saving yourself ON TOP of that. So the choice is between being morally correct, or being morally correct AND ALIVE

@RealDianeYap Red pushers don’t have to explain game theory to the button pushers; we understand. We’re actually a little ahead of you. It’s actually interesting watching the red button pushers overestimate their own intelligence bc they think they solved what’s frankly a very easy riddle
