@Brien_Jackson i think he's just saying it achieves a solid amount of PR for a very tiny cost, whereas Van Hollen's would be too expensive to justify whatever bump you get in PR personally i don't think either are worth it, he should not endorse the race to the bottom on tax exemptions

Lol, Van Hollen's proposal would raise the standard deduction to $92k for couples. The idea that this MGP proposal would be more "politically impactful" than that is just further proof that Matt is spending all of his time in a completely made up world of copium these days.
Matthew Yglesias@mattyglesias

This is dumb, but it's also probably 10x more politically impactful than Chris Van Hollen's dumb tax ideas at a teeny tiny fraction of the cost. If you're gonna propose dumb stuff, make it cheap!

@uncledoomer this feels like a lame critique. they invented and popularized these cars long before we were even talking about microplastics.

@s1m0nbl @qqwweettyyuu9 @Brien_Jackson if that's really their intent, they'll be disappointed to learn that the Chapo Trap House fan club aspires to make them face the wall just like everyone else. those types regard Obama as a war criminal of the highest order, and the Pod Save guys were among his henchmen.

@Wilson__Valdez @jonfavs Have you ever considered moving on with your life and doing something other than being annoying on Twitter? You'd probably be happier, and fwiw, i've had you muted for years so when you do pop up, you just seem insufferable and tedious and not someone id want to associate with😘

@bradeitner @RichardHanania Pathetic cope, no Democratic president has ever come close to the level Trump is operating at on lawfare. You just think it's good because a Republican is doing it and you don't believe in a free and fair society. You want to live in a Republican North Korea.

The Comey indictment is probably the biggest free speech violation of our generation. It's hard to think of something more clear cut than this. A federal prosecution for something this clearly protected. We are living under an outlaw regime.

@qqwweettyyuu9 @Brien_Jackson they seem to want to occupy an impossible niche between the progressives and moderates in the party. attacking party leaders/moderates while also taking a normie pro-America stance and touting their Obama admin experience in a way that makes them toxic to socialists. untenable.

@Brien_Jackson When you are trying to be the media outlet for the Democratic party and spend your time platforming people who hate the democratic party and also are detrimental to wider society and thinks america deserved 9/11 and then people don't like that.

The MAGA supporter as a perpetual child. Americans can’t just have a distaste for a cult of personality. Let’s support Kim Jung Un and spit on the entirety of everything that makes America great because it’ll make a lib mad somewhere.
Legal Phil@Legal_Fil

Look, this is ridiculous. As is Trump’s need to plaster his face everywhere else. But if you aren’t laughing at the anguish of Blue Anon’ers having to choose between renewing their passports and abandoning their plans to travel to Europe, you simply lack a sense of humor.

Mamdani is a straight up populist, so the fact these guys are trying to claim him as theirs shows how their whole framework is a shallow attempt to confuse Democrats with money and lies.
Searchlight Institute@SearchlightInst

.@DKThomp: There are philosophical differences between liberals and populists that we shouldn't run away from. They exist. But the fights often obscured the degree to which individuals could hold both populist and abundance principles. And I've come to think of this somewhat cheesily as the 'abundance mullet.' Economic populism in the front and abundance in the back. Zohran Mamdani ran on freezing the rent — but here he is talking about making it easier and faster for developers to build in New York City. Mikie Sherrill ran on freezing utility increases — but her second executive order was all about supply-side renovations to encourage the construction of solar and storage by making it easier to build energy in New Jersey.

@CharlemagnumPI Diane is a deeply calloused, almost cartoonishly evil individual who masks her contempt for those she perceives to be lesser than her with this performance of pure rationality. Deeply unserious person.

@fawfulfan Of course. People on the left take any opportunity to bash Miami and Florida because they hate it's Conservative nature. Tale as old as time. If it was under majority Democrat rule and declining as you are trying to suggest, you would have never made this post.

@JulianAndreone @mattyglesias it sounds bad, but it makes sense. it's much easier to unite people against something than for something. people from all over the spectrum, all walks of life, hate trump, but start talking about ideal healthcare or immigration policy and people start to form factions.

The one thing every smart elected official that I talk to agrees with is that Democrats can't just be anti-Trump, they also need a strong affirmative vision and honestly I am very skeptical of this!
Julian Andreone@JulianAndreone

AOC: “People are tired of the idea of a Democratic Party’s only position being anti-Trump. We need to have our own vision. For me, that means Medicare for All, unionization rights, antitrust and breaking up monopolies, and taking on big health insurers.”
