@Our_DA You are doing yourselves a huge disservice with this post. The escaped parolee numbers are from 1991 to date. How far back does FMD lack of action go. All DA's doing or a dysfunctional agricultural ministry taken over by DA?

🚨 28,000 parolees have effectively vanished from the system. The DA has called on Parliament to summon Minister Groenewald to explain this shocking failure and outline a plan to get these absconders back into custody.

It can not be stated enough just how bad this messaging is from GHL: - the FF+ is a natural ally of the DA, not a foe - it is well known that the DA has lost support to the FF+ because of Steenhuisen’s behaviour, but this will not convince a return - opinions vary but many consider Groenewald to be the best Minister in the GNU and not any of the DA Minsters. Attacking him comes across as jealous and petty - the issue being raised by GHL was not created by Groenewald or the FF+, but he is trying to sort it out. Imagine this logic of attack being applied to Macpherson who still has no control over thousands of assets of state owned infrastructure, or Schreiber who has numerically done nothing to stem/reverse illegal immigration - criticizing someone outside the DA for holding a “talk shop” is very rich when the DA does this exact thing often - lastly is that Helen Zille will likely be the Mayor of Johannesburg by year end. Just imagine all of the things she will not be able to fix in her first 2 years - GHL just opened the floodgates on hammering her without rebuke Whomever advised this as a strategy needs to be fired immediately, and the DA really needs to learn how to predict the future consequences of their words and actions better. My goodness.

You held a summit?! 28 000 parolees, many of them convicted of violent offences, are missing on your watch. And you want the victims of murderers and rapists who reoffend because you’ve done nothing to find these criminals for two years, to be grateful that you held a talk-shop?

@geordinhl @jvnaidoo1 @Our_DA Disappointing response. Common knowledge these issues are long before GNU. DA has been accused of issues they inherited. Dept of Agriculture a prime example. Political points scoring does not assist the general public. We should learn from Zimbabwe & unite the smaller parties.

🚨Nearly 28,000 parolees are untraceable. Gone. Missing. Many of these are violent criminals, now walking free, putting the public at risk. Pieter Groenewald must not hide behind excuses. He must act today to find these parolees, bring them back before the law, and hold every official accountable who allowed them to disappear. The DA will not accept a system where criminals roam free and communities are left to pay the price. A DA-led government will implement electronic monitoring, proper supervision, and real accountability.

@stefanjacobs Starlink was not rejected, Amazon is here doing great business, Ford is here, IBM, Microsoft, there are countless USA companies we welcome, we are having this debate on an American platform. Starlink must do what those businesses did

One of the signals that shows South Africa is practically unsalvageable without a drastic mindset shift is the strong rallying cry behind rejecting Starlink from operating in South Africa. None of the arguments offered for why it should be blocked are compelling at all. Just pure resentment, arrogance, and emotion over facts.

I hear your concern about possible conflicts of interest. But let’s not lose the bigger picture.Whether someone has ties to MTN or not, the real issue is this:South Africa has terrible rural and township connectivity, fragile infrastructure, and millions of young people without jobs or opportunity.Starlink offers independent, high-speed satellite internet that works when local networks and the grid fail. It’s already helping rural communities in Nigeria, Kenya and Mozambique. The question we should be asking is simple:Why are we blocking (or delaying) a technology that can connect the unconnected, enable AI tools, support education, farming and small business, and create new technical jobs — just to protect existing players?Competition is healthy. It forces everyone to improve service and lower prices.South Africa should approve Starlink as a national development tool with community shared access and local skills training — not block it over ownership disputes or vested interests. The future (AI, digital economy, resilience) matters more than protecting any single company.Let’s focus on what’s best for the country and its people.

Redi Tlhabi just dropped a piece calling @Starlink a “national security threat” to South Africa… and warning us not to sell our democracy to @elonmusk . But she “forgot” to mention her piece is hosted on Phillip van Niekerk’s Substack, the same guy who’s A PAID CONSULTANT FOR MTN. MTN has every incentive to slow-walk Starlink while pushing its own satellite plays. Transparency matters when lecturing about “democracy” and foreign influence.

The South Africa Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ronald Lamola, has once again attacked President Donald Trump and the millions of Americans that voted for him: “We know, that in the US, the MAGA movement is very clear to attack black people. We know what they stand for. They stand against the human rights." In November 2025, in a CNN interview, Minister Lamola accused Trump's administration of pushing an "agenda of white supremacy." Is this what you and your comrades consider "doing everything we can to fix the diplomatic crisis with the USA," President Ramaphosa? 🤨

@TiisetsoMaloma Capitec have cheap data for account holders. Switched frm FNB Connect to Vodacom. The first three months they gave amazing data deals. From month 4 the best I can get is 7,5 GB for 30 days at R99. Buying data direct with Vodacom and MTN is usually cheaper than from a bank.

The man naive South Africans call "racist" has offered free high-speed internet connections to disadvantaged schools, what have the ANC cadres, who claim to love black people, offered instead? Rather than connecting the nation, they are actively milking the poor through predatory ISP monopolies and inflated mobile data rates. Weaponising racial sentimentality to shield parasitic telecom cartels is a deliberate gatekeeping of black poverty, executed solely to safeguard the rent-seeking interests of the political elite.

@Vodacom @Dondmolefe SIM swaps R often associated with bank account fraud. Vodacom, MTN etc are well aware of this. When or if, are you implementing finger print verification to support SIM swaps. It will put an almost instant stop to this nonsense without making too big a dent in your profits.

@mteton @OUTASA Definately no. Annoying the amount of infrastructure that's been systematically destroyed and rectification celebrated. Eskom electricity price over the last 30 years has increased nearly 2000%. Getting that figure to reflect inflation will be an achievement of note. Good luck.

Eskom has issued a firm notice: it will reduce, interrupt or terminate electricity supply to key Johannesburg bulk points as City Power and CoJ arrears hit R5.2 billion. Enough is enough. How did we, as a society, allow a major metro like Johannesburg to operate with such disregard for accountability? It is a betrayal of the citizens we serve and the future we’re fighting to build. We must demand better. Integrity and responsibility cannot be optional in our cities. Time to fix this. 🇿🇦 #AccountabilityNow

JUST IN: The National Consumer Commission has referred FlySafair to the National Consumer Tribunal for alleged contraventions of the Consumer Protection Act. The NCC noted concerns in the media, including social media platforms, regarding allegations of FlySafair overbooking and/or overselling flight tickets. The NCC further noted several complaints by consumers who alleged that they had experienced the same issue with the airline. The airline publicly acknowledged that overbooking is part of its business practices. @eNCA #FlySafair

There are multiple municipalities owing ESKOM a total of R95bn. Some have debt double that of Joburg R5bn. The only reason ESKOM is targeting Johurg, is because they’re the only municipality who can realistically settle their debt

Eskom is threatening to cut electricity supply to the City of Johannesburg over unpaid debt now standing at R5.2 billion. Eskom has issued a notice of intention to terminate electricity supply, saying City Power has failed to honour their Electricity Supply Agreement. Tune in to #eNCA, channel #DStv403.
