We started Comp AI one year ago with 3 people… now we’re a team of 15. Here are 4 things that turned out to matter more than I expected about how we built the team: 1 - Hire slow for function, fast for people. When we needed customer support capacity, I didn’t run a formal search. I reached back out to someone I had already met, seen operate, and trusted. That kind of targeted conviction hire has served us better than any structured process. On the other side, hiring for a function we did not fully understand yet has cost us more time than just waiting would have. 2 - The team you keep is as important as the team you build. We put real thought into how we treat people, not as a retention strategy but because it is the right way to operate. Unsolicited moves, the kind nobody required us to make, tend to signal something that no formal benefit can replicate. The whole team watches how the company behaves in the details. What they see there is what they actually believe about the culture. 3 - People who don’t want to be here will eventually make that clear. We don’t try to force-fit anyone. If someone's energy is somewhere else, it becomes visible over time. Holding on to the wrong person longer than you should costs the rest of the team more than it saves the individual. 4 - Clarity about the mission is a force multiplier. The more clearly everyone understands what we are building and why it matters, the less management the whole thing requires. Alignment isn’t a soft concept. It has a measurable effect on how fast decisions get made and how well people operate when no one is in the room. 15 people is still small. But the patterns that work at 15 will scale to 50, and the ones that do not will scale just as reliably in the wrong direction.

Visited our UK office last week. Pretty wild how just over a year ago it was just Lewis, Mariano, and I in a tiny room with 0 customers. Fast forward to today, over 700 customers, $5M+ ARR, almost 20 people strong. Offices in UK, NY, and Miami. Things can change much faster than you ever anticipate. Compounding is no joke.

I sat down with @TheZoltan of Croissant. American company. French pastry name. I was there to discuss the trademark infringement. He thought we were doing a podcast.

I heard Americans love ramps. They’re organic, sustainable, and, when properly foraged, surprisingly compliant. I sat down with @tryramp's @simoncorry And, well, I gave him a ramp. He told me "Facebook was probably the worst job I’ve ever had” (P.S. they didn’t have ramps)

@claud_fuen @JosephJacks_ Can confirm, AI isn't a second thought, it's part of the day to day. Honestly pretty proud of the coverage we have at our size. 🤝

We have 15 employees and serve roughly 600 companies. That ratio isn’t possible without AI. We even have a Slack channel with each of those companies as well. That might sound insane at first glance, but that’s because most people still don’t understand how much work can be automated by AI. Everyone thinks that’s something that’ll be possible in the years to come. But no… it’s entirely possible right now. Entire workflows that used to occupy many skilled professionals can now be handled by AI. And right now is the worst AI will ever be, ever again. It’s a lot of work on the front end, but you reap the rewards of those actions forever.

1 year ago, we launched Comp AI. Today, we celebrate $5M ARR and 680+ customers. So naturally, we flew the whole team out to Miami to have an offsite they'd never forget. 1 year ago, it was just myself, Mariano and Claudio in out of a small office in NYC. Shipping like madmen. Now, we're a team of 14. All A-players. Winners. Hardest working people I know. Now, we're locking in for the next 365 days. Never been more excited for what we're about to unleash on the world.

The future is not AI. The future is who controls it. Models with no limits. Or intelligence with consequences. Give them power. Or give humans the right to remain human. You don’t get both.

Sorry to all the folks dealing with this. If you've been affected, email the Comp AI team at sales@trycomp.ai before the end of March with your Delve invoice, and they'll give you a year of @compai for free.

One thing worth calling out: the @trycompai team. @dagorenouf ran a 35-minute sales call that felt nothing like a sales call. He understood our stack, our regulatory context, and exactly what we needed. No fluff, no oversell. @DustinTurska handled onboarding with the same energy — every question answered fast, zero friction throughout the whole process. Good tools matter. Good people behind them matter more. Audit engagement starting soon... I'll keep you posted on how it goes. 🔜

In 10 days we went from a compliance crisis to audit-ready across 3 frameworks: → ISO 27001 (security): 100% ✅ → PCI DSS (payments): 94% → ISO 42001 (AI governance): 74% Here's what happened 🧵

Silicon Valley celebrates a philosophy called: Move fast and break things. I find this troubling. What exactly are you breaking? Regulations. Consumer trust. The social contract itself. At Compliance Capital we follow a different principle. Move at the speed of government. The European Union spent seven years drafting the AI Act. The Americans call this bureaucracy. I call it respect for the process. Last year I invested in a startup that spent 14 months preparing a landing page. Not technical challenges. Accessibility compliance. WCAG 2.1 AA. Then WCAG 2.2 was announced. So they waited. Beautiful discipline. The page is still not live. But the documentation is extraordinary. In my Masterclass, I explain why speed is not a competitive advantage. Speed is a compliance risk.
