The only way that AI destroys Hollywood is if it destroys movies as a medium. Hollywood dies if we get to a point where we are satisfied to simply consume whatever slop the algorithm generates for us specifically, and the whole concept of having a shared experience of art as a culture disappears. Yes that will kill Hollywood. It also kills one of the most important and defining aspects of human society. Not even remotely worth the cost.

I keep hearing people say that they’re happy to have AI takeover the film industry because “at least it will be better than what Hollywood puts out.” First of all, no it won’t. The dumbest Marvel slop is prime Francis Ford Coppola compared to anything an AI will make. Second, who do you think will be the ones making the AI films? Do you really think AI will bring down the big movies studios and “democratize art” or whatever? No, the movies studios have the distribution and the marketing. They’ll just fire most of the people who work on film crews (ie the normal people who are mostly not millionaires) and churn out AI slop faster and more widely distributed than you can on your laptop. AI films will be just as woke, if not woker. They’ll have all of the bad things about Hollywood’s current output with none of the few redeeming qualities.
