@cherokeeowl 14 year olds are still in middle school. They haven’t even finished puberty and males still have around 10 more years of brain development. Yes there should be a severe consequence. But ruining a child’s entire life falls under cruel and unusual punishment imo.

He’s 14. Speeding in a car with friends, catching up to a woman, yelling and cursing. Trying to show off, he pulls out a gun and fires into her car. When police arrive, she’s dead. He’s sentenced to life. A life was taken—and another is effectively over before it began. Where does accountability meet age, judgment, and development? Can a 14-year-old truly understand the weight of a life sentence? Is 14 old enough for life in prison—or do we need a different way to balance justice, responsibility, and rehabilitation?
