I learned of this a few months ago and was so impressed. What an excellent practice to instill in children. Here is what I was taught as a young girl by my parents: Respect yourself. Respect others. And show respect to your environment. Ultimately, it is discipline being taught, and the Japanese have excelled in discipline. Honor, respect, diligence, industriousness. Japan continues to teach the world. 🌸🌸🌸

In Japan, children clean their own schools. Every day. After lunch. About twenty minutes. Classrooms. Hallways. Toilets. Not because the schools are too poor to hire someone. Because in 1947, this country decided that cleaning your own space is part of becoming a person. The cleaning rag is on the school supply list. Right next to the pencils. Egypt teaches it now. So does Indonesia. So does Mongolia. Think about the last time you watched a seven-year-old mop a floor without complaining. Japan does that in every elementary school in the country. Not as punishment. As education.

The Palestinians were mass murdering, child rapist terrorists who did all this and were gleeful about it. They made phone calls boasting to their family members. Did anyone in the Hamas government express remorse or regret about any of this? Or anywhere in Gaza? Of course not. They ordered it. They delighted in the extreme pain and cruelty of the Oct 7 operation against Jews. So now some Americans, including ones who claim to be conservative, are taking the side of Hamas and claiming this was a genocide? What do these people really think Israel was supposed to do in response to Oct 7? Fight an imaginary "gentle" war? No response at all? Give up? Childish thinking. Absurd moral preening. War is hell, but Hamas brought that hell upon Gaza.

A peer-reviewed paper published last year in the journal Bioethics by two professors at Western Michigan University School of Medicine argues that it is "morally obligatory" to genetically engineer ticks to spread alpha-gal syndrome, a permanent condition that makes you violently allergic to red meat. The paper is called "Beneficial Bloodsucking." Their argument: if eating meat is morally wrong, then preventing the spread of a disease that forces people to stop eating meat is also morally wrong. Scientists should gene-edit lone star ticks to enhance their ability to carry alpha-gal syndrome and expand their range into urban environments to infect more people. They call this a "moral bioenhancer." They frame releasing genetically modified disease-carrying ticks as a "vaccination" that only "infringes" on your bodily autonomy rather than "violating" it. The distinction, apparently, is that a tick bit you instead of a government official holding you down. Alpha-gal syndrome is not mild. The CDC estimates up to 450,000 Americans are already affected. Cases have surged 100-fold in the last decade. Symptoms include anaphylaxis. There is no cure. Alpha-gal cases are exploding across the United States. The lone star tick's range is expanding far beyond its historical territory. And two academics at a medical school published a paper arguing this is a good thing that should be accelerated. At what point do we stop treating papers like this as fringe academic exercises and start asking whether anyone is already acting on them?
