Secretary Kwon was honored to stand with the @MassStatePolice and Trooper Clardy’s family and friends, celebrating his life and legacy on the tenth anniversary of his passing. We honor his service and sacrifice, and recognize the courage and dedication of all who protect our communities each day.

Ten years ago, The Massachusetts State Police lost Trooper Thomas L. Clardy of the 77th RTT. Trooper Clardy was struck along I90 in Charlton on March 16, 2016. Today, Trooper Clardy's family, friends, and colleagues braved the rain to pay tribute to him at the Charlton Barracks.

The smoke alarm in this photo was melted almost beyond recognition by a fire like the ones that claimed three Massachusetts residents' lives this week. Smoke alarms can be the difference between life and death -- but only if they're working properly: mass.gov/info-details/s…

.@MassFireMarshal recently joined @UptonFire, @UptonPolice, & others to recognize FF/EMT Matt Kerr and his wife, Adrianna. Adrianna spotted the latest in a spree of fires set in Peppercorn Hill and alerted Matt, who responded & blocked the suspect's escape until Upton PD arrived.

If you notice a fire hydrant in your neighborhood that is covered with snow from the blizzard, please consider shoveling it out if you're able. Clearing the snow three feet in all directions will help firefighters if they have to respond to a nearby fire.

Many people have been working hard — not only to prepare for this storm but also now to respond to it. Thank you to our National Guard and all the crews out there who helped keep people safe and are digging us out!

Heavy snow and strong wind gusts are making it dangerous to be on the roads statewide — but especially on the South Coast, Cape and Islands. For that reason, a ban on non-essential travel is now in effect in Bristol, Plymouth, Barnstable, and Dukes counties.
