The US under Trump will not guarantee anything in Ukraine. It does not even honor the territorial integrity of NATO “allies.” Nor is it able to defend its allies in the Gulf. But this means Europeans must do much, much more - in the security interests of both Ukraine and themselves. The 🇪🇺 needs Ukraine as much as Ukraine needs 🇪🇺 support. This must be the focus in Berlin, Paris, Rome, Warsaw, London. Urgently. @IlvesToomas @OlenaHalushka @RoryStewartUK @joerglau @GresselGustav

Why are two co-signers of the Budapest Memorandum so obsessed with pushing Ukraine to abandon its own sovereign territory? Trading real land and people for guarantees that will likely never materialize — does the U.S. really honor its commitments? reuters.com/business/aeros…

Sram.

#Feminism is, among other things, the belief that everyone deserves the same rights and respect. No better place to explore where we stand on this and more than with an inspiring group of activists at #QIKA in #kometé, a #feminist bar and centre, tucked into the cutest corner of #Pristina, #Kosovo.

Since the #Ohrid #Agreement became a benchmark for 🇷🇸’s 🇪🇺 path, Belgrade’s leadership has shown little intent to implement it. Instead, including in the years prior, it has moved in the opposite direction: advancing revisionist policies and supporting, encouraging, and shielding those responsible for the #Banjska violence. At the same time, sustained pressure on Kosovo Serbs to withdraw from 🇽🇰 institutions has reversed much of the integration progress achieved since 2011, leaving the community in a markedly worse position than five years ago. With democratic standards and the rule of law deteriorating in 🇷🇸, a shift in course appears unlikely in the near term. The 🇪🇺 should therefore intensify direct engagement with 🇽🇰’s institutions and the Serb community in 🇽🇰. Recent steps suggest that, while some coordination with Belgrade remains necessary, this approach can deliver tangible results. Advancing 🇽🇰’s membership in the Council of Europe and opening a credible #EU accession path, as part of a broader adjustment of the 🇪🇺’s offer to its (potential) candidates, would strengthen stability, support reform, and deliver concrete benefits for 🇽🇰 and its resilient and important Serb community. From my interview yesterday with EU Enlargement Commissioner @MartaKosEU👇
Adi Ćerimagić@adicerimagic

When asked about the idea recently floated by leaders of 🇦🇱 and 🇷🇸 in an #FAZ op-ed—full #single #market and #Schengen integration as an interim step towards full 🇪🇺 membership—Commissioner Marta #Kos told #PoliticoEurope that “it will ultimately depend on the direction [#EU] member states choose to take.” But Kos explained that such model already exist with countries like 🇮🇸, 🇳🇴, and 🇨🇭, and that they “can take part in discussions in the Council, but they do not have voting rights,” concluding that “this shows that there are already models for deepening relations outside full membership, and we should carefully consider what is already working well.” On #Vučić and #Rama, Kos also warned that she is “not sure whether both of those leaders fully appreciate how much needs to be delivered to become part of Schengen or the internal market. There are extensive reforms required, especially regarding the rule of law.”

Putin has been by far the biggest cause of mass displacement to the EU between 2015 and 2024. He backed Assad from 2015 to 2024. After Assad‘s fall very few Syrians still left to EU. He bombed Aleppo from 2015, as he had Grozny and later Mariupol. He expelled millions of Ukrainians through terror and war. This displacement will stop when his war of aggression stops. Without Syrian and Ukrainian regugees there would have been no exceptional „refugee decade“ in 🇩🇪 & 🇦🇹. This crisis was made in Moscow. @magnusbrunner @LaurenceBoone @joerglau @benjaminhaddad @_FriedrichMerz

Terror The West Bank today 👇
Kegham Balian@kbalian90

BREAKING: Rabbi Yehuda Gilad, head of Yeshivat Ma’ale Gilboa, visited Khirbet Humsa in the West Bank following a settler pogrom in which a 29-year-old Palestinian farmer was sexually assaulted, his family was beaten, and hundreds of his sheep were stolen. Below is his full statement, translated from Hebrew: Letter from the Head of the Yeshiva, Rabbi Yehuda Gilad With God’s help, Rosh Chodesh Nisan — “a time of atonement for all their generations” Yesterday I went through a very difficult and deeply disturbing experience. I visited Khirbet Humsa (about a 30-minute drive from our yeshiva), where a pogrom carried out by hilltop youth took place about a week ago. I heard the details of what happened there from several sources, including Ruti — a woman I have known for years and trust completely. It turns out that in the early hours of the night, a group of rioters (around 30–40 people) arrived, equipped with sticks and many zip ties. They bound the men (and apparently also two foreign volunteers, though I am not certain of this), and then beat them all over their bodies with fists and clubs. We saw many remnants of the zip ties on the ground. The men required treatment at the hospital in Afula for injuries of varying severity. At the same time, the attackers stole the entire herd — about 300 head — belonging to the few families living there, under unimaginable conditions of poverty. At first, I heard that there had also been sexual violence, and I did not believe it… Yesterday we arrived at the site with Ruti, a friend of mine who is well known to them. When they saw us — Rabbi Avidan Friedman and myself — they visibly recoiled in terror and anxiously pointed to the kippot on our heads. Ruti tried to calm them, explaining that we were not among the attackers. Even so, at the beginning of the meeting, they were hesitant and afraid. I heard directly from a young man — a firsthand witness — what had happened there. From his face, the blue bruise in his eye, and his sorrowful expression, it was clear he was telling the truth. In that same conversation (with the help of a translator), he described in detail the prolonged abuse they endured while bound. Then, with deep shame, he told us something I had previously found impossible to believe. I find it difficult — my hands tremble as I write this about Jews — and yet I will write it, because I am convinced it indeed happened. Yes, these wicked individuals bound his genitals in an extremely painful way — not to mention the humiliation involved. These events recall the pogroms our ancestors endured in various diasporas. Have we become like the worst of the nations? I want to turn to the question: what should be done? But I feel that I am still at the stage of crying out. Alas — what has become of us!

On this day 27 years ago, #NATO airstrikes against what remained of #Yugoslavia began. The campaign had clear objectives: to halt atrocities in #Kosovo, secure the withdrawal of Yugoslav forces, and restore stability. These aims were achieved within 78 days. What followed were sustained and robust peacebuilding efforts grounded in clear values. War criminals were brought to justice, and Kosovo was supported on its path towards becoming a functional multi-ethnic democracy based on the rule of law and a market economy. Much has been achieved since. Compared with many military campaigns conducted since, including those unfolding today, the 1999 intervention stands as a success. Today, however, Kosovo needs its partners to help consolidate these achievements and unlock its full potential. Unlike in 1999, this can now be done by the 🇪🇺. In particular, 🇽🇰 should join the Council of Europe and advance the 🇪🇺 integration process, with clear, achievable, and meaningful objectives. This is especially important for the Serb community in 🇽🇰, also [but not only!] in light of developments in neighbouring 🇷🇸, where the 🇪🇺 is losing its capacity to drive positive change, and where democratic backsliding, erosion of the rule of law, and revisionist tendencies, alongside rearmament, have gained ground. Political actors and institutions there have shown a willingness to encourage, promote, support, and protect perpetrators of violence, as seen in #Banjska, placing the Serb community in 🇽🇰 in a difficult position.
