Thank you @EmmanuelMacron for organising a call with G7 partners to discuss a coordinated response to the concerning situation in Iran and the Middle East.
We are focused on minimising the impact on security and the global energy market.
President @vonderleyen and I recalled that the immediate priority is to keep energy flows moving, especially navigation through the Strait of Hormuz - critical for the global economy. Enforcing the oil price cap will help stabilise markets and limit Russia’s revenues. This is not the moment to relax sanctions on Russia.
We both welcomed today’s decision by the IEA to make 400 million barrels of emergency reserve oil available to ease tensions in global energy supply.
We agreed to work closely with partners in the region to prevent broadening of the conflict and restore stability.

In 2025, Russia intensified attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure & wilfully targeted civilians. Despite voting for a UNSC Res calling for an end to war, it launched over 54,000 drones &1,900 missiles against Ukraine. Russia is deliberately undermining peace, not seeking it.

By voting YES on today’s 🇺🇳GA resolution, UN MS can demand two simple things:
1. A full & immediate ceasefire, and
2. A just & lasting peace in line with the UN Charter.

24 February marks four years since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, in violation of the @UN Charter & international law. This devastating war is a stain on our collective consciousness & remains a threat to regional & international peace & security. The longer the war continues, the deadlier it becomes. Civilians bear the brunt of this conflict, with 2025 witnessing the largest number of civilians killed in Ukraine. This is simply unacceptable. I reiterate my call for an immediate, full & unconditional ceasefire as a first step towards a just, lasting & comprehensive peace. For peace to be just, it must be in line with international law, respecting Ukraine's independence, sovereignty & territorial integrity.

DRC: Hundreds of thousands newly displaced. Humanitarian access is extremely difficult. The EU has mobilised €250MIL. but money is not enough. We must step up humanitarian advocacy. Only diplomacy can deliver peace. I will travel to the DRC, Rwanda & Burundi in 2 weeks.
