#Gaza: One year on, we commemorate and remember. Marin, our @UNOPS colleague killed when UN buildings were struck, five others were severely injured. He is among at least 588 aid workers killed in Gaza since the war began, including our Loai, another UNOPS colleague. I call for holding those responsible for all atrocities accountable. Aid workers continue to be targeted in conflicts. They must be protected according to international law. #NotATarget

Assistive tech is no luxury. It’s key to enabling opportunity, dignity and full participation in society. Yet, millions around the world continue to be excluded from essentials like wheelchairs, hearing aids and eyeglasses, with women and girls disproportionately affected. To achieve gender equality and the Sustainable Development Goals, that’s got to change. At the Commission on the Status of Women, my colleagues @_ATscale, together with @UN_Women, led the urgent call to make access to assistive tools for all a top priority. Very sad about the loss of a @UNICEF colleague in Democratic Republic of Congo. Condolences to her family, loved ones and our friends at UNICEF. Humanitarians, and the people they serve, are #NotATarget.  I join calls on all parties to respect international humanitarian law and protect civilians including aid workers at all times.

Our world is slipping further into conflict and chaos every day. Inequalities persist. The climate crisis continues to wreak havoc. These challenges are deeply interconnected. While the world’s attention is elsewhere, our #Gaza team continues to face unacceptable risks to deliver aid. Yesterday, a @UNOPS tanker on its way to collect urgently needed fuel for distribution inside Gaza was struck from the direction of the sea.  No one was injured. The tanker was however directly hit and damaged while empty, en route to the crossing to load. Our teams are taking extraordinary risks every day to keep humanitarian operations and life-sustaining services. They should not have to do that under fire.  I call for a full investigation into this latest incident. Fuel must be allowed into Gaza consistently, its delivery facilitated safely and without interruption to keep humanitarian operations and essential services running: hospitals, water and sewage systems and bakeries. #NotATarget

#children are often the first and most to suffer. This war is no different. So many killed, so many injured and displaced. The impact that wars have on children can be long term causing trauma and psychological scars. 🛑 End the hostilities, for the sake of children wherever they are.

Great conversation today at #EIBForum Global Partnerships Panel. We are very glad for being a partner of choice on the implementation of EU Global Gateway projects, especially on infrastructure. Sustainable and resilient infrastructure is a sine qua non condition for sustainable development and climate action. While this requires a financing and policy boost, nothing can be done without strengthening the capacity for implementation. Partnerships across public and private sectors - and putting local communities' needs front and centre - are key to delivering sustainable and resilient development. I had a very productive exchange with Roberta Casali, VP @ADB_HQ on the centrality of cooperation and efficiency to deliver tangible results on the ground. @UNOPS and ADB have a shared vision for delivering real results with practical, impactful solutions. I look forward to expanding this important work together. #EIBForum

Terrific to interact with @EIB leaders at the #EIBForum to discuss the impact of the growing collaboration between @UNOPS & EIB. I had an excellent discussion with VP Karl Nehammer and his team on translating vision and financing into tangible results. We look forward to strengthening our partnership further in fragile contexts and middle income countries.

It was a pleasure to meet with DG @MPopowskiEU @UNOPS & @eu_echo are strong partners with a shared commitment to delivering for communities in need – incl. in Ukraine, Afghanistan, Myanmar and Yemen. I shared some reflections on my recent visit to #Gaza, and we discussed how to deepen this partnership to address critical needs and early recovery especially in crisis-affected contexts.

My @UNOPS colleagues in #Gaza delivered over 400,000 litres of much needed fuel for humanitarian purposes yesterday (Tuesday) to key distribution points in Gaza. This is an encouraging development following the temporary closure of Gaza crossings, but much more is needed. Fuel is critical for people’s daily lives and the services they depend on: health, water and sanitation, bakeries, shelters and education. Fuel must continue to enter Gaza consistently.
