I should add. Don't have to kill them well short of their value curve maximum to maximize the yield of the cash crop.

*Unpopular opinion* Cover crops are easier to make work if you A. Don't have to kill them B. Harvest them for cash C. Can use harvest loss to reseed them D. Can graze in fall/winter/spring... or in season

We have been quoting a simple cold storage building and for a 60x100x16 The quotes have varied by 100k
The cheapest quote was sub 100k
How is this even possible.

@blonglet We’ve been getting quotes on an 80x160x18. Lumber bids have been similar- 2 contractors were similar on labor, the other was 55k more.

@jasonmauck1 Worked out pretty good for the guys in the 80s. Went bankrupt had an auction government bailed them out and they got to keep the land and now rent it out to highest bidder every three years.

Heard the years 81,82 amongst the farmer crowd quite a bit followed by the years 86, 87.
Land descended from $3500 - $1000/ac in that time frame.

@EthanMidkiff “Earlage” here. Get the benefit of the silage process and still a high protein feed plus a little fiber. Helps keep rations a little wetter versus a dry corn

How do I reach #cattletwitter? I’m just curious if any of them can explain “coblage” to me. Second year the neighbors did it for feed for their angus herd. Strap the combine head on the chopper and go. What’s the benefit over ground dry corn?

@jdschopfer @EatMooreBeef23 @jerodmcdaniel Yes you have some oats come back. No significant pea regrowth. I underseed with alfalfa/orchard grass mix. Maybe sorghum/Sudan would be better for you? Closer to silage

@jerodmcdaniel Was just thinking when will the day come commodity crops are raised in large buildings? Especially up north here get 2 crops a year control heat and water how many bushels could you grow a year? Not saying it’s a good thing just can see it happening

So if you can team that up with patience...(like 3-5 years) then you can create your own university (plugging in network created)...and eventually your own economy.
