The U.S. may soon remove sanctions from Iranian oil that is stranded on tankers to help lift global supplies and reduce prices, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Thursday. Via REUTERS

@EconElan @RayDalio whoever owns the distribution layer. Amazon won because they owned where people went to buy things, not because they shipped the best books. the infrastructure play usually wins. the consumer-facing product usually gets commoditized.

When new technologies emerge, people often assume the winning technology automatically means winning investments. History shows us that’s rarely the case. Most companies disappear as competition sorts out the winners and losers, but the underlying technology will endure and continue transforming the world. So are we in an AI bubble? Yes. But that has nothing to do with the lasting power of this innovation. @theallinpod @friedberg

the more interesting question under this: the bubble and the technology can both be real, but the timeline is different. the dot-com bust happened in 2000 and the internet didn't actually transform everything until 2008-2012. if the same 8-year lag applies to AI, the companies being valued today are priced for outcomes that won't be clear until 2032. most investors aren't thinking on that timeline.

I know at this point no Atlantic column is going to take down the crime syndicate posing as our government, but this is about as succinct as any evaluation of our current “foreign policy” and standing in the world that could ever be written. theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/03/…

Another example of conservative Jewish leaders, here at @ADL, indulging in the corrosive wishful thinking that anti-Semitism explains the collapse in support for Israel under Netanyahu among US Democrats & the increasing fractures about it on right. x.com/HaleyCohen19/s…

New from me: Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the ADL, called out two Democratic lawmakers, Chris Van Hollen & Ro Khanna, from the main stage of the organization’s Never is Now conference in Manhattan, accusing them of perpetuating antisemitism.  jewishinsider.com/2026/03/jonath…

@Malinowski The funny thing is the subset of us citizens with the documents handy that save requires skews heavily dem. GOP is fighting for that and Dems are fighting against it. Wild

Not what my op-ed today was about but an interesting sub-finding of the paper is that Newsom is seen as very left-wing, Vance seen as more extreme than Trump. Most mod-coded Dems are Cuban, Beshear, Gallego, Shapiro. osf.io/preprints/soca…

@mattyglesias Ironic since Beshear is just an average Democrat. He just knows how to talk to rural voters. Shapiro's only moderate on taxes and school vouchers. I'm curious to see how he governs with a Democratic trifecta.

@KelseyTuoc There's the more important question of appeal to persuadable independents. (Related to cross-aisle appeal but probably diverges in some cases)

A lot of Democrats are catastrophically bad at guessing who has cross-aisle appeal. Please just go ask some Republicans "which Democrat would you vote for if you had to pick one". It's never ever Newsom. Often Shapiro.

Iranian Economic Warfare is working. Iran is now issuing IRGC EZ-Passes for friendly nations' oil shipments. India and China are moving Iranian oil from Kharg Island toll-free. Everyone will soon start lining up and paying up .... except US Warships. They and anyone they escort will be attacked. So long as America won't attack those tankers or Kharg Island (which Iran would just cut off the oil if Trump did) Iran is winning the Economic Warfare.
