@lukeakehurst It's the standard right wing trope making it about poor parenting. Without such provision, there are many folk who would not be able to hold down a job.

This attack on Breakfast Clubs from a Reform council leader is ignorant. Breakfast clubs aren't just about nutrition, they mean the child is more ready for formal classroom learning as they have already been in a school environment for c45 mins. They enable working parents to get to work earlier and earn more. And having visited some in my constituency it is obvious the children enjoy being there!
Linden Kemkaran@LeaderofKCC

Sorry, call me old fashioned but I believe it’s the parents’ job to give their child the best possible start to the school day.

It poured down part way through tonight's ride giving me a chance to test my new waterproof, it passed! I do love cycling in the rain😀 Here's an example of one of many good overtakes tonight: A driver showing patience, realising there's barely a delay, allowing plenty of space.

@darrengrimes Darren is utterly useless. All he has is words. He spends his days ignoring Durham residents and posting on his personal social media accounts to make money.

I told 5 members of this BBC panel that their one-term North East Labour Mayor is a symptom of a political class that’s lost the plot. They wax lyrical about the need for Andy Burnham, despite having over 400 MPs they readily admit aren't fit to run a bath. General Election now!

So sad for Jonathan he has worked tirelessly in Ribbleton for 40 years to be replaced by a Reform candidate who couldn’t even be bothered to turn up and no one has seen him in the Ward. It’s soul destroying 🥲 @prestonlabour

@thfc10010 @Cliffinkent @louderry I expect folks voted thinking councillors would do the job they were elected to do. This behaviour lowers turnout further and encourages " they're all the same" comments

Unsurprisingly where Reform already run councils in Kent. Voters said 'feck no'.

I am in favour of Reform winning councils so everyone sees how utterly awful they are when they have to actually run things instead of just painting roundabouts and droning on about a full English.

I'm delighted that we will now have the opportunity to run even more councils and prove beyond doubt what a bunch of incompetent numbskulls we are.

@SimonHarrisMBD A year into Reform on Durham we find they get elected and then just don't bother. But the council claims to reduce waste!

All over England today, hundreds of new councillors with remits that cover potholes, bins and adult social care are going to be meeting to figure out how to stop the boats.

20's Plenty for Us
20's Plenty for Us@20splentyforus·
Surely you are better than this Richard. 1. You know there are no "rules" on setting 20mph limits only "guidance". 2. You know that 80% of child road casualties are NOT when travelling to/from school. 3. You know that in Wales urban/village road casualties are down by 26%. 4. You know that setting 20mph back to "only outside schools" will kill and injure people. 5. You know it would increase insurance premiums. 20mph isn't "anti-motorist" any more than seat-belts, air-bags or traffic lights, but you attitude seems to be anti-life and livability in our communities.

The Arnhem bridge sits in the background, probably the most recognised bridge of the Second World War. In the foreground, a 25-pounder field gun. Explaining to my Arnhem Battlefield Tour group today why this gun has no connection to what happened here. At nearly a ton, airborne forces never carried 25-pounders. The 1st Airborne Division used 75mm pack howitzers, light enough to fit inside a Horsa glider. This gun is a memorial piece, not a historical match.

The 1st Airborne memorial in Arnhem stands at the foot of the John Frost Bridge, set in a sunken bicycle roundabout locals call the bears pit. Each year, on the Friday of the commemorative weekend, a remembrance ceremony is held here. The memorial is a column from the destroyed Palace of Justice. It was meant to be temporary, but when a replacement was proposed, locals objected. The column remained.

Nadhim Zahawi says he doesn’t feel safe in London because yesterday at 8am, while walking from his home in a posh area, he stepped off the pavement into the road to avoid a tired-looking man who “looked as if he hadn’t slept for a week.” He assumed the man was violent. The poor guy could've been on the night shift.
