On the way back, the @SouthwestAir plane crew refused to make an announcement to let people with connections off the plane first and I then watched the gate door close right in front of me as I ran up to it yelling. Again stranded overnight with no hotel.

Worst flying experience ever with @SouthwestAir they cancelled my connecting flight on my way out, stranding me overnight and would not pay for the hotel. 1/2

I've been wondering when academics would start to be outraged by OA publishing costs. Apparently $10k/paper is the line. I think $2k is too much. Journals should disclose their operating costs. Cloud storage and websites are not that expensive.

@KLCookLab I'm so sorry, I've had the same situation happen. How can we try to change the system?

What new layer of hell is this, that with these Reviewer 1 scores my #NIH grant was Not Discussed?!?! These were some of the nicest reviews I’ve read. I’ll be in the corner mumbling about my stapler.

@jetblue update, there are 3 employees hanging out, but apparently they are all on break at the same time.

Well I'm not flying @JetBlue to Vegas again. On arrival the flight and baggage claim wasn't listed in the airport. Now I'm trying to check my bag home and all the machines are down and not a single person is working ticketing

Ok @NIH, you really need to institute a policy change. If I spend the time to revise and resubmit a proposal that was discussed, then the panel should be required to discuss the resubmission.

@NIH Please change your review requirements so that any grant that was scored is automatically discussed when resubmitted. I'm tired of spending time revising good proposals only to have them not discussed. I think this is a reasonable request.

At this point, only about 1 in 20 emails coming to my university inbox (post spam filter) are worth opening or contain any content even remotely relevant to my job. What is your ratio? How do you get rid of the other 19 emails?

@TomGaborski @RITtigers @UofR I'm trying for the sixth year now to get funding from NIH to identify infections early in urine, wound, and/or sputum samples by detecting quorum sending molecules that the bacteria secrete. We already know which QSMs to detect to identify the bacteria.

@TomGaborski @RITtigers @UofR Happy for you Tom, but geez, this is a pretty convoluted approach to treating sepsis. I can't can't get my really simple approach to preventing sepsis funded 😞

Super excited to tell you about a new R21 helping attack Sepsis that we were just awarded. Science is awesome, but the people part is what is really fun. See the story below. Lucky to be part of the larger @RITtigers and @UofR community...

Happy semester's end. This week I was in the lab long enough to take a selfie in front of the glovebox.

@danteshepherd 'cauliflower' in 6th grade, apparently there is no acceptable alternate spelling as 'cauliflour' which I demanded there was and made the teacher check the dictionary

'Chaperone' in 8th grade. The class actually gasped when I started off with an 's'. Anyway, I'm an engineer now, and if we spell something right on the first try 3 out of 10 times, it's a good day.

@CranfordMATTER Depends how often they list me. Also, unfortunately given the current state of academia, I would be worried about quid pro quo to publish with my friends in top journals, which I think already happens to some extent

Question to potential peer reviewers: Would it influence your decision to accept/decline to review if you were informed you were one of the author's suggested reviewers?

@watermicrobe it's also a bit misleading how schools are highlighting the positivity rate in their results compared to the state. Taking a known negative population and testing them way more than the general population gets tested will obviously give you this result
