Google's Gemma 4 confirms it: 4B active parameters is the sweet spot. Their 26B MoE activates only 4B at inference. Ranked #3 open model globally, competing with models 20x its size. SN97 miners converged on this independently. They compress Qwen3.5-35B into dense models under 5B parameters. The current king outperforms Qwen's own small model on 6/7 benchmarks, with 67% better distributional faithfulness. Google needed 26B total parameters with MoE routing to get 4B active.
