Many of the dangers children face today did not appear overnight. They grew in the gaps left by inaction, complacency and a failure to put children’s safety first.
For too long, warning signs have been ignored, safeguarding failures have been tolerated, and too many children have paid the price.
Those who commit child abuse must be held fully accountable. But accountability should not stop there. Where institutions, organisations or leaders knew of risks, ignored evidence, failed to act, or enabled abuse through negligence or poor safeguarding, they too should be called to account.
Protecting children is not a political issue. It is a moral responsibility.
History will not judge us by the speeches we made. It will judge us by whether we created a world where children were genuinely safer.
Children deserve better. It’s time for accountability at every level.
