the new middlebrow podcast with @mcmansionhell is very enjoyable. many of the points raised feel salient to menswear — deskilling in the trades, rise of bad taste because an uneducated customer goes wild with options, poptimism vs cultural criticism, etc

🔥@GrahamForMaine on his interaction with NY Times reporters about "working class."

These "restorations" are training a generation of movie watchers to become desensitized to light, shade, and mystery.
The human eye likes to work. The human eye likes dimension. The human eye likes mystery.
Stop making everything so clean and clear.

@colebrax That would have been amazing. Sorry for your loss, James. I've been going through and listening any ones I've missed. Just did The Man Who Would Be King episode which was so moving.

@EdwardMLeer I wish we had recorded a Part II to this episode. Tony knew more about Fellini than anyone else alive.

If you've listened to as many episodes of Tony on Wrong Reel as I have, you see how truly passionate and knowledgeable he was about such a wide range of film and all culture. And it wasn't just data. He had articulate opinions and would go on beautiful rants about works of art.

I know a lot of people are incredibly sad right now about Tony Stella. But hearing his voice is making me smile so I want to share one of my favorite recordings with him where we unleashed him on the subject of Federico Fellini. We miss you buddy. wrongreel.com/podcast/wr446-…

the CATO Institute.. a libertarian think tank funded by the Koch brothers.. just published a study showing immigrants paid more in taxes than they received in benefits every single year from 1994 to 2023..
not a left-wing university.. not a Democratic PAC.. the Koch brothers' own research institute..
they reduced the deficit by $14.5 trillion over 30 years.. they earn less per hour but work at higher rates.. which means higher per capita income.. which means higher taxes paid..
the country spent 30 years being told immigrants were draining the system.. turns out they were funding it.. and the people who told you that knew the numbers the whole time

Immigrants generate more income and taxes than the average person, per CATO Institute.

I did it was called TNT's MonsterVision, and it came on every Saturday at 3pm. Kids today have really lost out on watching niche and older films in the age of streaming.
Upstate Federalist@upstatefederlst
People out here acting like 80s and 90s kids regularly watched movies from the 50s and 60s.
