On July 24, 2026, former Kampala Lord Mayor and lawyer to jailed Dr. Kizza Besigye, Erias Lukwago, is expected to appear before the High Court for the hearing of his bail application before Justice David Matovu. The application comes amid growing concerns about his health following his abduction on June 15, 2026, and remand to prison on June 20, 2026. Court records and medical reports indicate that Lukwago's condition has significantly deteriorated while in custody. An independent medical assessment conducted by five senior consultants at Mulago National Referral Hospital, on June 30, 2026, found that he suffers from multiple chronic conditions, including severe spinal complications, neurological disorders, hearing-related conditions, chronic pain, and hypertension. Lukwago told the court that, without his specialised orthopaedic pillow, he has been forced to rely on sedatives every night to sleep, describing them as "addictive" and "dangerous" to his health. The Mulago specialists further recommended that Lukwago be urgently referred to his treating spine surgeons at the Fortis Memorial Research Institute in India, citing limitations in Uganda's capacity to diagnose and manage complications associated with his artificial cervical disc implants. The High Court's decision on bail will determine whether Lukwago can access the specialised medical treatment recommended by his doctors while awaiting trial. #SaveEriasLukwago #FreeEriasLukwago

Muwanga Kivumbi’s lawyers filed a writ of habeas corpus following his abduction on July 10, 2026, and his whereabouts remain unknown. The matter came up for hearing yesterday. The Attorney General asked court to adjourn the hearing for four days to allow government time to respond. Let that sink in. This is where we’ve reached as a country. A former MP and leader in a leading opposition political party, abducted in broad daylight by the military, with police and the media watching, cannot be accounted for by the State. Remember Dr Crispus Kiyonga’s response to Joel Ssenyonyi’s question on the matter on the floor of Parliament this past Wednesday? He said heads of security agencies had asked for more time to respond to the question. Is Kivumbi perhaps in such dire condition that they need at least four days to patch him up before he can be paraded before court?
