Newly declassified documents show that US intelligence leaders concealed findings that undermined their core allegation of a "sweeping and systematic" Russian interference campaign in the 2016 election: Russia's alleged hack and release of Democratic Party emails via Wikileaks. In January 2017, a US intel assessment -- overseen by CIA chief John Brennan and endlessly parroted by media outlets -- claimed that Russia was behind the email hacking. Now in July 2025 we learn that the ICA hid the fact that the FBI and NSA only had "low confidence in the attribution of the data leaks to Russia." This was because, a September 2016 intel assessment explained, "we lack sufficient technical details to correlate the information posted online to Russian state-sponsored actors." This was obvious to those of us who read the available evidence, rather than just writing down what US intelligence leaders told us to. During these 8+ years of buried evidence and media stenography, we were told that "Russian interference" not only put Trump in power, but represented a Pearl Harbor/9-11-level threat to US democracy and security. It was all a scam.

One year ago today, Julian Assange began his 48-hour journey to freedom, leaving Belmarsh prison in the United Kingdom and boarding a jet bound for Australia via the remote U.S. island of Saipan. “365 days have passed, but we are light years away from Belmarsh prison. To all the supporters who helped make this possible — there are no words to express how grateful we are to have Julian free.” - Stella Assange

This is a broken civilization. A warped and twisted dystopia. The waking nightmare we are witnessing in Gaza is the result of everything that we have become as a society. Those dead and mutilated children on your screen are the fruit on the tree of the western world. I will admit to having been hopeful. I know it's illegal to express hope online, but I really did hope that by some miracle peace would find some way forward in Gaza in spite of the frenetic efforts by Trump and Netanyahu and their cohorts to sabotage it. I had hope, and now I have grief. Now the Gaza holocaust has been reignited. And the people who rule over us are actively supporting this, while working to imprison, fire, silence and deport anyone who opposes it. Please understand that this is personal now. This isn't only about some strangers in the middle east. It's also about you. It's about your rights. It's about your freedom to speak out against the criminality of your rulers. It's about the kind of society you want to live in. It's about the kind of future you want for your children. We are not separate from what's happening in Gaza, as hard as we might try to make ourselves feel that way. Gaza is here. The waves of blood are lapping at your doorstep. The dead and mutilated children are strewn about your living room and kitchen. They were placed there by the powerful people who run your government and its allies. There's no getting away from it. Gaza has been brought right to you and laid at your feet. And it's up to you how you're going to respond to it.

Did Rubio Tie Trump’s Hands on NATO? Just over a year ago, Marco Rubio & Tim Kaine, then both senators fearing a Trump presidency, slipped a rider into the annual defense bill to block the president from exiting NATO. Will Trump trigger NATO withdrawal anyway? Under Article 13 of the NATO treaty, any member can exit by giving one year’s notice. Triggering this clause could be an attractive power move for the president, as it would formally keep all options open while starting a 12-month withdrawal countdown, placing enormous pressure on Europe. Trump’s first term saw him lambast NATO over defense spending. His threats jolted allies into boosting spending, but also sparked fears he might ditch the alliance entirely. Enter Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Tim Kaine (D-VA, Hillary Clinton’s former running mate), who, anticipating a second Trump term, inserted a rider into the Fiscal Year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Signed into law by President Biden, it mandates that any president secure two-thirds Senate approval to withdraw from NATO and bars funds for any unilateral exit. The NDAA rider’s legality is a constitutional gray zone. Article II of the U.S. Constitution empowers the president to make treaties with Senate consent, but it is silent on revoking them. Historical precedent leans toward executive freedom: presidents have long exited treaties solo, claiming foreign policy primacy. In 1979, Goldwater v. Carter saw the Supreme Court dodge the question of whether Carter could nix a Taiwan treaty alone, deeming it a political tussle unfit for judicial refereeing. Scholars are split—some say Senate treaty approval implies a role in termination, while others argue that the president’s foreign affairs helm is unfettered. Trump’s 2018 Open Skies Treaty exit offers a playbook. That pact allowed nations to overfly each other’s airspace for transparency, but Trump pulled out, dismissing a similar 2019 NDAA rider that required a 120‑day congressional notice. His team and the Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) called it an unconstitutional shackle on executive power. Congress discussed a potential lawsuit, but ultimately didn’t file one. NATO’s 2024 NDAA rider, though tougher with its funding ban, might face the same fate. If Trump tried to withdraw from NATO without approval, Congress could vote to sue, but it’s uncertain whether a Republican-run House and Senate would defy their party’s leader. Standing to sue isn’t guaranteed, and courts might balk at intervening in this executive-legislative dispute. Even if challenged, the year-long withdrawal clock could run out before a ruling is reached, leaving NATO in limbo. Rider or not, Trump still has options to bend NATO to his will. He could declare the rider unconstitutional, notify NATO of withdrawal, and dare Congress to act. The Open Skies precedent suggests he might prevail, especially if Republicans hesitate to sue. As a secondary option, he could throttle U.S. involvement without formally quitting. With the $600 million annual cash payment representing less than 1% of the U.S. total contribution, Trump could close bases, slash troop numbers, curb exercises, or limit intelligence sharing—effectively removing U.S. commitment while remaining in the alliance in name. Option three—repeal the rider outright. As a statutory provision rather than a treaty clause, it can be undone with a simple majority in both houses instead of the two-thirds requirement. With Republicans holding Congress, this repeal could pass if Trump pushes for it, although it risks alienating NATO-friendly GOP hawks. Rubio’s NDAA rider looks sturdy but wobbles under constitutional scrutiny and Trump’s defiance playbook. Practically, Trump’s arsenal—unilateral withdrawal, de facto throttling, or legislative repeal—suggests he can loosen most of the knots Rubio and Kaine tied. The Open Skies saga proves that the president can in practice push through even explicit legislative barriers to treaty termination. As Trump eyes NATO anew, Rubio’s shackles look shaky.

In October 2023, Simon Shuster of Time Magazine published a profile of Zelensky based on access to his inner circle. Their concerns about him, including his refusal to even discuss a peace deal with Russia, presaged today's White House humiliation. Zelensky was so committed to “belief in Ukraine’s ultimate victory over Russia” that his outlook “worries some of his advisers,” who see him as “immovable, verging on the messianic.” “Nobody believes in our victory like I do,” Zelensky said. “Nobody.” That includes his closest subordinates. “He deludes himself,” one complained. “We’re out of options. We’re not winning. But try telling him that.” Zelensky finally got told.

Britain already has at least 50 “boots on the ground” in Ukraine, over half total from Nato nations. This came from the Pentagon leak in 2023. It’s likely more now. British foreign policy is run nearly completely in secret. The discourse we are exposed to is a PR pantomime.
