S. Baka for a More Prosperous Babura 2027 Yesterday, Saturday 18th April 2026, I officially submitted my application expressing my interest to contest for the position of Member, State Assembly representing Babura Local Government Constituency. This step marks the beginning of a purposeful journey driven by the vision of great leadership, dedicated service, and sustainable development for our people. I have decided to join this race with clear intentions and practical goals for a more prosperous Babura. My agenda aligns with that of my principal, His Excellency, Mal. Umar A. Namadi, FCA, Executive Governor of Jigawa State, whose leadership continues to inspire commitment to grassroots development and inclusive governance. If granted this opportunity, my priority will be quality education. I will work to ensure that every child attends school regardless of background. I will support teachers through capacity-building initiatives and create opportunities for outstanding educators to earn scholarships for Master’s degrees in our universities. This will encourage excellence and promote healthy competition among teachers. In the health sector, I will advocate for improved access to healthcare, particularly for the elderly. I will work towards establishing a standard pharmacy within our local government to provide subsidized medicines, including a 50% reduction for senior citizens. I will also initiate support programs for children living with sickle cell and other health challenges. I will also prioritize access to clean and safe water, especially in villages facing water scarcity. I will work with relevant authorities and partners to support the provision of boreholes, rehabilitation of existing water facilities, and sustainable community-based water management systems to ensure reliable access to potable water for our people. To address youth unemployment, I will establish a standard skills acquisition center where young men and women can receive quality training for self-employment. I will also organize quarterly youth development programs, inviting professionals to empower our youth in entrepreneurship, personal branding, digital skills, and artificial intelligence. I will support local businesses, especially women engaged in small and medium enterprises. Furthermore, I will advocate for impactful constituency projects such as the provision of adequate sanitation facilities in public places, including markets. I will also ensure that orphanages receive the support they deserve and promote the integration of Almajiri children into western education through collaboration with the State Tsangaya Board. Additionally, the Jigawa Education Outreach Project is being developed into a standard foundation. I have initiated the process of registering it to enable access to national and international funding, which will be utilized to implement sustainable initiatives that support our people. Together, through great leadership and collective commitment, we will build a stronger, united, and prosperous Babura. I sincerely thank Almighty Allah for bringing me to this stage of my journey. I pray for continued guidance, strength, and the opportunity to serve the people more effectively. Hon. Sulaiman S. Baka

I don’t really understand this attempt at the domination of other healthcare professions by the MDCN. What is the rationale behind placing an independent healthcare profession under another profession? We are different, with different training, expertise, and responsibilities.

The Association of Radiographers of Nigeria has warned against what it described as a legislative attempt to erode the profession of radiography and transfer its statutory responsibilities to the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria. The President of the association, Dr Musa Dembele, gave the warning while addressing a press conference at the Kano NUJ Press Centre on Saturday. He said, “The Medical and Dental Practitioners Act (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill, 2026 (HB 2695) is not a reform but a targeted, calculated, and existential assault on the profession of radiography.” He also described the bill as an attempt to introduce a “jurisdictional override” intended to dismantle the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria. “This is a legislative execution of a profession that has served Nigeria for over 50 years,” he said. Dembele pointed to Section 8(1) of the bill, which grants the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria exclusive authority, describing it as “a legislative nuclear weapon” that strips the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria of its mandate. The association also accused the bill of “conceptual theft” by redefining radiology in a way that erases radiography as an independent scientific discipline. “The bill seeks to legally erase radiography as an independent profession and subjugate radiographers to the disciplinary authority of a council composed of individuals with no expertise in radiographic science,” the association said. On financial matters, the association accused the bill of promoting “extortion as regulation,” noting that it mandates that 70 per cent of practising fees be shared with the Nigerian Medical Association. “This reveals the true motive — financial colonisation,” Dembele said. The association also raised concerns over HB 2699, the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria Amendment Bill, which it said seeks to weaken the board from within. It described the inclusion of medical doctors on the board as “a fundamental violation of the doctrine of professional self-regulation” and warned against excessive ministerial control that could politicise regulation. The association stressed that globally, radiography regulation is profession-led, citing examples from the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia, and noted that Nigeria cannot afford to adopt a substandard model that contradicts established international norms. The association therefore called on the National Assembly to protect the integrity of the Nigerian healthcare system by rejecting the bill in its entirety. It also called for a stakeholders’ summit to develop a harmonised regulatory framework that respects the co-equal status of all health professions, as obtained in the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. “The association aligns with the position of the Joint Health Sector Unions, medical laboratory scientists, physiotherapists, and other critical stakeholders who have also rejected similar legislative attempts,” he added. @AishaYesufu @ConcernedNIG @bulamabukarti @officialABAT #SAVERADIOGRAPHYPROFESSION #SAVEHEALTHCARE #SAVENIGERIA

Let’s not politicize the healthcare system, please. Patient care should always be our main priority. Healthcare works best through collaboration, mutual respect, not dominance.

I support reforms that strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare system. However, any amendment to existing health laws must protect the professional autonomy of bodies like the RRBN, PCN, MLSCN and other allied health councils.

Exactly MBBS 2weeks of radiology rotation is more impact full than a BRad 3Yrs of radiology posting and 1 yr internship . Radiographers should be selling carrot in Jigawa.

@SimonnMed @Eagle272461 Exactly.. they don’t want to hear. They feel they’re not being treated right. But some who studied MBBCh (did radiology postings) did HJ, residency in radiology.. There are procedures in USS that only radiologist can perform.
